On September 6, Suzhou held an expert discussion meeting on the Tangbei site, inviting experts and scholars such as the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to make suggestions for the protection of the site.

On site, experts conducted detailed research and discussions on the Tangbei site. The Tangbei site is located in Guoxiang Street, Wuzhong District. More than a year ago, a resettlement housing community was being built here. In line with the construction needs, this plot has undergone two archaeological explorations, and the veil of history has gradually been unveiled. So far, a large number of artifacts and eight tombs have been unearthed from the Tangbei site, and its rich Maqiao cultural deposits have been discovered for the first time in Suzhou.

The culture of the Suzhou area from Liangzhu to the Eastern Zhou Dynasty has always been relatively vague. The discovery of the Maqiao cultural site between 3900 and 3200 years ago has made the ancient historical logic chain of Suzhou more complete.

Xu Lianggao, a second-level researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and director of the Xia Shangzhou Research Office, said that it should be said that it is not easy to have such a large site in the water town area in the south of the Yangtze River. Because Maqiao is a very important culture around Taihu Lake, it is probably equivalent to the Xia and Shang periods in the Central Plains, which is a very important archaeological material and empirical material for the retrospect of Suzhou's history.
