Double pedicle lotus, as the name suggests, is a lotus with two flower pedicles on the stalk, two flowers, and a pair of lotus pods.
The probability of forming a double lotus is only about one in 100,000, and the flowering period is only 3 to 5 days. Therefore, it is a treasure among lotus flowers. Because of its rare, unique, elegant and refined, it has been favored and praised by literati since ancient times.

In the process of growth, the lotus generally only forms one flower bud, one meristematic center, and one flower. If stimulated by some special external environmental conditions, or if there is a special internal variation, the flower bud on one stem may differentiate into two meristematic centers, and then develop into two flower buds like twins. Experts have used the lotus root seeds and lotus seeds of the double-stalked lotus to carry out repeated cultivation experiments, but none of them can produce a double-stalked lotus. According to experts from Chenshan Botanical Garden, the lotus variety that bloomed this time is Wuyi Bingdilian, which is the lotus variety that has appeared most frequently in Chenshan Botanical Garden in recent years.
However, the bloomed lotus is kept in the lotus resource garden and is not open to tourists. Chenshan Botanical Garden suggests that citizens and tourists may wish to look for the figure of the lotus in the 12,000-square-meter West Lake in the park or the LOGO flower box in the square outside Gate 1.

Guyi Garden Deputy Director Chen Yanyan introduced that generally speaking, the bud stage of the lotus before flowering needs to maintain a temperature above 20°C for several days, preferably for more than 14 consecutive days, otherwise it will affect the growth of the buds, and continuous cooling and heavy rain will lead to bud failure. The lotus also needs sufficient sunlight, and requires no less than 10 hours of strong light every day.
For citizens and tourists who want to take pictures of lotus flowers, it is recommended to hurry up early. In midsummer, the best time to watch lotus and water lilies is in the early morning.
However, citizens and tourists who don’t get up early don’t have to worry. Guyi Garden has installed spraying devices in many places such as the lawn and Jiuqu Bridge. Whenever the weather is sunny, fog will be created regularly. It is quite interesting to take pictures of lotus flowers blessed with “fairy spirit” in a cool and comfortable environment.
