It is worth noting that because of the continuous "soldier shortage" on the island, the conscription standard has been lowered again and again. For example, a male who is originally 1.72 meters in height, if he weighs less than 48kg or more than 93.4kg, is exempt from military service. However, according to the latest regulations, men with a height of 1.55 to 1.57 meters also need to serve as an alternative service. In addition, the visual acuity requirement is less than 1100 degrees of myopia or the difference between the two eyes is less than 500 degrees, and the corrected visual acuity reaches 0.6; the body mass index range of regular service is 17 to 31, and the upper limit of replacement service is 35. In other words, whether you are fat or thin, tall or short, short-sighted or not, you will all need to serve in the military in the future.
But let’s be honest, the island’s willingness to serve in the military is getting lower and lower, which is enough to prove that the island’s youth are not willing to be “cannon fodder”. The combat effectiveness of the internal team will thus be greatly improved. The reason for saying this is mainly because of the following points:
First of all, the physical fitness of the officers and soldiers on the island is uneven, and the most notable is the proportion of "fat officers and soldiers" in the Taiwan military. According to previous data, in the entire army, there are about tens of thousands of "moderately obese" people with a BMI value of more than 30. At the same time, the military service period of the Taiwan military is only 4 months, of which two months are basic training, and the military training in high school and university can be offset by one week. In such a short period of time, what kind of military combat power can be formed. The most important thing is that they are afraid of hardship, lack of discipline, fear of death, bullying recruits without achievements. This kind of atmosphere in the barracks really makes the people of " Strawberry Soldiers " sit on the ground.
Secondly, the army on the island is not so much an army as an "adult summer camp". It’s summer, training needs awnings , once the temperature exceeds 32°C, you can’t go out for exercises and training, you can rest for 10 minutes in the middle of each training session, and there are small trucks selling snacks and drinks in the middle. In addition, the squad leader and each soldier's parents must keep in touch by phone, and soldiers must go home regularly on Saturdays and Sundays. Speaking of this, we recalled a joke made by a retired general on the island before, saying that he told him with his 32 years of military experience that false soldiers would run away if they did not rest, so the PLA would not conduct long-term exercises. But the truth is that this is a special situation only for the troops on the island.
Furthermore, there is a serious shortage of lieutenants, second lieutenants, and captains in the various branches of the army on the island, because the lower-level officers of these ranks have the highest death rate. Once a war breaks out, they all have to go to the front line. But what they have to face is the well-trained and disciplined People's Liberation Army. If they really go to the battlefield, they will not predict what will happen to them? By the way, the troops on the island also felt deterred by the PLA's live-fire exercise around the island, so who would be willing to go to the forefront of the battlefield as "cannon fodder" under such circumstances?
All in all, no matter how you look at it, no matter how strict the Taiwan defense department is to exempt service standards, it will not change the fact that the combat power of the island's troops will not be able to improve in a short period of time. What's more, what is the strength of the troops on the island? The frequent occurrence of training accidents in the military camp on the island is the answer. If someone wants to fight the PLA with such military strength, there is no doubt that it is a dream. The last thing we want to say is that the United States is the happiest about the island's strict exemption from service standards. After all, as more and more soldiers are recruited, the United States has more reason to make a lot of money for arms.
