Reference News Network On December 25, according to Taiwan's "Central News Agency", TSMC issued an event notice, and it is expected that on December 29, it will hold a 3nm mass production and expansion project at the new construction base of Chip 18 Factory in Tainan Science Park. There will be a beam-raising ceremony at the factory ceremony.

reported that compared with 5nm, the logic density of TSMC’s 3nm process technology will increase by 70%, the speed will increase by 10% to 15% at the same power consumption, and the power consumption will be reduced by 25% to 30% at the same speed. It is expected that customers such as Apple and Intel will adopt TSMC’s 3nm process.

It is reported that TSMC's Nanke Chip Factory 18 is a production base of 5nm and 3nm. Among them, the 5th to 9th phase of the Chip Factory 18 is a 3nm production base.

reported that, compared to its rival , Samsung announced the mass production of 3nm all-around gate (GAA) technology on June 30 this year, and held a grand 3-nm event in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea on July 25. In commemoration of the delivery of nano-GAA chip products, TSMC’s 3-nanometer mass production was nearly half a year late.

The first phase of TSMC’s Arizona plant is expected to be mass-produced at 4nm in 2024; the second phase of the project will start construction, and it is expected to produce a 3nm process in 2026. The total investment of the two phases is about 40 billion U.S. dollars. A total of more than 600,000 pieces of chip will be produced annually.

Faced with TSMC’s expansion of investment in the United States, it sent engineers to the United States to support it, causing doubts about “de-Taiwanization” and “hollowing out Taiwan”. The report described TSMC's Nanke 3nm mass production as "a rare act to declare its determination to continue to cultivate Taiwan and resolve external doubts."
