We do not believe in individual heroism, but we also admire many legendary heroes. In the 1970s, near the Jiangjin People's Hospital in Sichuan, a "coffin-carrying man" with half-white hair and a thin body was often seen. In those days, mechanization was not widespread, and the way of transporting corpses was often carried out manually, and then the corpse was carried into a wooden box, and finally transported to the crematorium for cremation. For this kind of work, whether it was then or now, it is easy to be "looked differently", and some people say bad things about this old man: "An old man who lifts the dead, doing this kind of work is definitely not a good background!"
The "coffin-carrying man" has long been accustomed to things, often smiling bitterly and burying himself in his work.
People don't know that this "coffin-carrying man" once used one person's strength, only relying on one gun and three grenades , together with his comrades, he blocked a tank division of the US military for eight hours. At the same time, he was also a famous hero who was contemporary with fighting heroes such as Qiu Shaoyun and Huang Jiguang. The name of this first-class fighting hero is Tan Bingyun, and his deeds are even better than the movie.
Tan Bingyun was born in Jiangjin, Sichuan (now in Chongqing). Like many heroes, he was born into a poor family, and his family was worried about food and drink since he was a child. As the saying goes: the poor's children are the early masters, and Tan Bingyun starts to herd sheep and work long-term when he grows up, and then goes to the wharf to work as a coolie after a little longer. Even so, at that time, it was only guaranteed not to starve to death, and it was impossible to eat enough. It is precisely because of his childhood experience that Tan Bingyun's resolute and brave character is created.
In January 1949, Tan Bingyun began his revolutionary journey, and in November 1950 he went to North Korea to participate in the war. In the battlefield to resist US aggression and aid Korea, Tan Bingyun fought bravely to kill the enemy, and made great achievements.
In April 1951, the mighty U.S. military commander MacArthur was beaten back to his American hometown by President Peng in several battles, and replaced by the cunning Lidgway . Compared with MacArthur's arrogance, Lidgway is better at observing the opponent's weaknesses. , and then focus on breaking it. Sure enough, Li Qiwei found that the logistics support of the Volunteer Army has a weakness. At that time, due to the lengthening of the front lines of the Volunteers, there was a lack of mechanized logistical support. Each soldier of the Volunteers had to carry dry food for seven days, which also led to the fact that the Volunteers had to retreat for supplies no matter what the battle situation was within the seven days.
Li Qiwei discovered this weakness, and immediately formulated a "magnetic tactic", leading the coalition to fight and retreat, to lure the volunteers into the ambush, and wanted to "make dumplings" for the volunteers. And how can such a trick escape the eyes of the volunteers? On May 24, 1951, Li Qiwei led the coalition army in an attempt to destroy the Volunteer Army. At that time, the battle situation was very critical. The Volunteer Army quickly evacuated as soon as possible, and the subsequent task of blocking the enemy was handed over to Tan Bingyun's 27 Army . Squad leader Tan Bingyun, Mao He and several other fighters were arranged to stop at Height 390. It was here that Tan Bingyun made the legend of war.
At nightfall on May 24, Tan Bingyun led a few soldiers to the 390 Heights ahead of schedule for exploration. Finally, after careful planning, they dug a few foxholes below the 390 Heights in advance, and this is an excellent location for ambushes. There is a river ditch on one side and a steep rock on the other, and between the two is a narrow path that can only accommodate a tank . Relying on this terrain, as long as the first tank of the US military is destroyed, the entire tank group will become an "iron king" that cannot move a step.
Before the arrival of the U.S. military, Tan Bingyun and several soldiers built the battle fortifications on Height 390. Tan Bingyun asked the soldiers to cover fire in the trenches dug in advance in the mountainside. In the fortifications at the foot of the mountain, he used branches and leaves to completely cover his body, waiting for the arrival of the US tank group.
Tan Bingyun's eyes were fixed on the road in the distance. In the dark night, beams of light gradually approached from a distance, and the mechanical roar gradually increased. Tanks were advancing in an orderly manner. Tan Bingyun holds the anti-tank grenade tightly in his hand. Although he has practiced many times before, after all, this is the first time to block the US tank at close range, and he is inevitably a little nervous.. The enemy's tank was getting closer and closer, Tan Bingyun pulled the tab with his left index finger, and tightly held the handle of the anti-tank grenade in his right hand. When the tank was in front of him, he suddenly stood up and threw the grenade in his hand at the tank. In the middle of the night, a white light lit up and a loud noise came from the valley. However, the first grenade did not cause destructive damage to the tank. The tank sounded the sound of machine guns and fired wildly in all directions.
Tan Bingyun saw that the first tank did not stop moving forward, but just blew up the tank's headlights, took out another grenade, and ran close to the tank and threw it. This time, it was thrown directly near the engine and fuel tank on the back of the tank, and finally caused major damage to the tank. However, because it was too close to the blasting point, the shrapnel from the explosion caused damage to Tan Bingyun's head at the same time, and his entire face was covered with blood. He didn't have time to deal with the wound on his body, only wiped the blood from his face with his sleeve, and then took out the last grenade on his body and threw it at the second tank. Because of the experience of the previous two times, this time the engine of the tank was directly blown up, and the two destroyed tanks directly blocked the narrow path to death.
Since it was late at night, there were volunteer soldiers around to cover and shoot. For a while, the US military did not know how many people were hidden in the surrounding area, so they could only stay in the tank, shooting around with the machine gun , one after another slowly. back. Since the road ahead was blocked by bombed tanks, and the surrounding area was shrouded in fire from the Volunteers, sending troops to clear the bombed tanks was just to die. In this way, Tan Bingyun relied on one person, a gun, and three grenades to keep the Second Division of the Beautiful Cavalry out of the valley. It was only at dawn that the Second Division of the US Cavalry completely cleared the bombed tanks, but a full eight hours had passed by this time, and the main force of our army had already rushed out of the encirclement.
At the subsequent commendation meeting, Peng Deqing, commander of the 27th Army, praised Tan Bingyun, calling him "contemporary Zhang Yide", who, by himself, immediately blocked an entire division of the US military. Together with the political commissar, he took a photo with Tan Bingyun.
On September 24, 1951, Tan Bingyun won the title of first-class combat hero and first-class anti-tank hero at the same time.
On October 1st of the same year, Tan Bingyun attended the National Day ceremony. On October 3, Tan Bingyun attended the banquet hosted by Mao, Zhou, Zhu and five marshals to entertain the fighting heroes. The chiefs have long known about Tan Bingyun's legendary deeds, and the five marshals all toasted Tan Bingyun and praised his glorious record.
In the summer of 1952, the DPRK awarded Tan Bingyun the "First Class Soldier Medal of Honor". In 1953, Tan Bingyun changed jobs and returned to his hometown. He served as the deputy chief of the Public Security Bureau, the section chief and deputy director of the Civil Affairs Bureau in his hometown in Jiangjin, Jiangjin. He also worked in the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. During his civil affairs work, he led by example in order to implement cremation reforms. The workers in the crematorium dared not touch the corpse, so he took the lead in pulling a trolley to the hospital to pull the corpse, moved it to the furnace for cremation, and gave a demonstration to the workers.
In 1983, Tan Bingyun retired with injuries. In 2001, the legendary hero passed away.
