01 Reasons for presenting the flag
There are generally two influential theories about why Yang Huimin stepped forward to deliver the flag to Sixing Warehouse at the critical moment.
The first is that Yang Huimin saw that the buildings around the four-row warehouse were all Japanese national flags, except for a few British flags, and there was no Chinese national flag. As a boy scout, Yang Huimin was very angry, thinking how exciting it would be to raise the national flag!
So Yang Huimin took the initiative to ask for a big flag from the municipal government, and he crossed the Suzhou River at night and gave the flag to Xie Jinyuan. In the 1975 edition of "Eight Hundred Heroes", Brigitte Lin, who played Yang Huimin, interprets it in accordance with this statement, and therefore it is very widely spread.
Another way of saying is that Xie Jinyuan called the 88th Division and asked his superiors to find a way to send a flag to boost morale. The division then handed this task to the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber of Commerce handed over the task of presenting the flag to the boy. 02 Yang Huimin's own statement
Yang Huimin also has two statements about flag presentation.
In the "Heroes of Heroes" published in Wuhan on March 19, 1938, the article "Yang Huimin's Self-report" was published. In the article, Yang Huimin elaborated on his mental journey:
"It was the morning of October 27th... I saw the sun flags planted around the four-line warehouse on the garbage bridge, and I said no. The anger that came out, on the one hand, I also thought...If there is a national flag with blue sky, white sun and red earth... What a magnificent thing! So I ran to the city government to report to Secretary Zhang, please send me a large flag Handed over to the Four Lines Warehouse for our military application.” This self-report indicates that presenting the flag is a choice made by Yang Huimin after seeing the surrounding scene.
However, on April 2, 1938, the 16th issue of "The Boy Scouts of War" published by Changsha published the article "Report on Offering Flags" by Yang Huimin. In this article, Yang Huimin said:
"October 27th, the 26th of the Republic of China... Mr. Zhang Shaoliang, the teacher attached to the 88th Division, really came to me, and his intention was to ask me to cross The concession went to the four-line warehouse left by the Xie regiment in Zhabei and presented the national flag to 800 strong men.” Obviously, this statement means that the flag presentation is the task assigned to Yang Huimin. The
flag presentation caused a sensation throughout Shanghai. The Shanghai Boy Scouts Association must be well aware of Yang Huimin's actions, and will truthfully report the events to the Chinese Boy Scouts Association. Then, when Yang Huimin submitted the report, he was more likely to truly explain the process of presenting the flag. But in "Heroes Soul", some deductive elements may be added.

03 Crossing or crossing the bridge

Yang Huimin's own statement in "Heroes Soul" is "I walked to the junk bridge...and then crawled over many sandbag piles on the ground. In about two hours, I finally climbed to the Four Lines Warehouse and presented the national flag. Xie Tuan echoed Commander Yang." In the article "Report on Offering Flags," Yang Huimin confessed that after successfully sending a letter to Xie Jinyuan, the municipal government gave her the task of presenting the flag again, so "soon again.
