According to statistics, as of the end of 2022, a total of 84,000 new companies have been established in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone, which is 2.35 times the number in the 20 years before the listing of the same area. A total of more than 14,000 new foreign investment projects have been established, with a total of US$58.6 billion in actual foreign investment, which is equivalent to more than US$10,000 of actual foreign investment "arrived" every minute. Among the 302 free trade pilot zone institutional innovations replicated and promoted at the national level, nearly half were initiated in Shanghai or were simultaneously piloted.

Zhangjiang Science City is located in Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It is the core area of Shanghai's scientific and technological innovation and a national-level scientific and technological highland. It has gathered a number of large scientific facilities and scientific platforms.
In November 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Zhangjiang Science City for inspection and investigation. In the Science City Exhibition Hall, the dark matter particle detection satellite model, exoskeleton rehabilitation robot and other exhibits attracted the attention of the General Secretary.
