"At that time, my friends and I intuitively felt the charm of hip-hop through VCDs and DVDs for the first time, and learned different styles of hip-hop by imitating the movements in the MV." Hong Xun said.
Hong Xun clearly remembers that at that time, boys who could dance hip-hop were very popular in school. In the words of the time, they were "very handsome" and "very fashionable".
As the number of young people dancing hip-hop gradually increases, many spontaneous hip-hop groups have emerged across Hainan. The core dancers of these groups have made great contributions to the future development of Hainan’s hip-hop. Such as Haikou's Battle Constellation Dance Company, Sanya's Glory Dance Company, Wenchang's Dance Hall Dance Company, Qionghai vs Elements Dance Company, Wanning lyj Dance Company, Danzhou bnj Dance Company, etc.

Hainan’s street dance teams have held some small exchange competitions. The more representative events are the Canon Cup Street Dance Competition and the Freestyle Hainan Street Dance Competition. Among them, the Freestyle Hainan Street Dance Competition has been held for more than ten years and has gradually become known to domestic street dance enthusiasts. If we say that the period from 1997 to 2005 was the “embryonic period” of Hainan street dance, then after 2005, Hainan street dance ushered in an era of technological improvement. Hong Xun said that since 2005, China's hip-hop technology has developed greatly. As hip-hop has gradually become commercialized, hip-hop exchange activities and competitions have been held all over the country. It has greatly promoted technical exchanges among domestic dancers, and Hainan street dance has also caught on to this train. The second generation of Hainan hip-hop players appeared. Through more scientific practice, their dancing skills have improved, and many of them have appeared on the stage of national competitions and even world-class street dance stages.
Since 2017, many professional hip-hop studios, clubs, and training centers have emerged in Hainan. Hainan's hip-hop players began to design a hip-hop teaching system suitable for our province's youth and held small hip-hop competitions for teenagers. Among them, Haikou Star Street Dance Club has introduced an advanced youth training system from Hunan, and other clubs in our province have introduced master-level courses from many world dancers, which has enabled the new generation of young street dancers in our province to improve their knowledge and grow rapidly.
Hong Xun introduced that from April to June 2024, the "2024 China (Hainan) Street Dance Grand Prix", guided by the China Dance Sports Federation and sponsored by the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports, came into being. Hainan establishes provincial break dance training team
As a creative and dynamic dance form, street dance has received widespread attention and love around the world in recent years. In 2020, break dancing in hip-hop will become an official Olympic event.
The sports department of our province also attaches great importance to hip-hop, an emerging sport, and promotes its development by establishing a hip-hop training team.
Hong Xun introduced that the three competitions of the 2024 China (Hainan) Street Dance Grand Prix are the first trials for the establishment of a break dance training team in our province. Currently, 160 people have entered the first training list, the youngest of whom is only 7 years old, and the oldest 37 years old. After the first training session, 64 people will be selected from 160 people.
Hong Xun revealed that from August to October, our province will hold the Hainan Provincial Breakdancing Excellent Sports Team Trials and the Hainan Provincial Breakdancing Championships, and finally select athletes to compete in the breakdancing event of the 15th National Games in 2025. In addition, professional break dance training bases have been established in Haikou, Danzhou, Wanning, Sanya and other places.
In Hong Xun’s view, although Hainan breakdancing contestants are not tall, they are more flexible and have strong skills. Although Hainan has not established a professional breakdancing team before, in recent years Hainan breakdancing has been in line with high-level training systems at home and abroad, and Hainan breakdancing players are very capable.
It is reported that the Hainan breakdancing team has a "big move" after it is officially formed - it plans to hire high-level foreign coaches as consultants and invite top domestic dancers to serve as coaches, striving to have Hainan players in the official breakdancing competition of the National Games. figure.
