On December 18, my country's first independently designed and built ocean drilling ship was officially named the "Dream". It was launched for sea trials in Nansha, Guangzhou, and is expected to be fully completed in 2024. This move marks an important step in the construction of my country's deep-sea exploration capabilities and the research and development of marine technology and equipment.
The "Dream" was built in close collaboration with the China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Natural Resources and more than 150 units. It has a total tonnage of about 33,000, a total length of 179.8 meters, a width of 32.8 meters, an endurance of 15,000 nautical miles, a self-sustainability of 120 days, stability and structural strength. Designed in accordance with the safety requirements of Level 16 typhoon sea conditions, it has the ability to operate in unlimited navigation areas in global waters and has the drilling capability of 11,000 meters in sea areas. After completion, it will provide important equipment support for the industrialization of energy resource exploration and mining, further improve my country's energy independent guarantee capabilities, strongly support my country's implementation of the international large-scale scientific plan for ocean drilling, and enhance the capabilities of "deep sea entry, deep sea exploration, and deep sea development".
In accordance with the design and construction concept of "small tonnage, multi-function, and modularity", "Dream" has broken through more than ten key technologies and completed a number of international first designs. Its overall equipment and comprehensive operating capabilities are at the leading international level. The ship has the world's most advanced drilling system, of which the deepwater riserless mud circulation system (RMR) was independently developed by my country. At present, it has achieved a breakthrough in the research and development of 400-meter RMR from "0" to "1". The main goal of this trial is to verify the functionality of the power system.
