Era and the Targaryen Family Tree
The Dragon Family is set in Game of Thrones about 200 years ago. This time change is significant, although not nearly as long as the cancelled Age of Heroes prequel. That work was originally set 5,000 years ago and would tell the story of the first war between humans and the White Walkers. "Dragon Family" is set in another iconic period in the history of Westeros - Aegon's War of Conquest. In this devastating war, Aegon Targaryen (later known as "Aegon the Conqueror") waged war on the Seven Kingdoms and established the rule of House Targaryen . This event was so significant that the chronology of Westeros was divided into Before the Conquest (BC, Before the Conquest) and After the Conquest (AC, After the Conquest).
However, we don't get to see Aegon's Conquest in person in the episode. House Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms for nearly three centuries before being overthrown by Robert 's rebellion in AC 282, and House of Dragons is set during the Targaryen rise and fall inside.
This series will focus on the beginning of the fall of Targaryen rule and the bloody civil war known as "Dance of the Blood Dragons". In this war, Aegon II fought his sister Rhaenyra for the succession, and both candidates for monarchy died in the ensuing civil war. This civil unrest is especially sad because the dragons have since disappeared from the world, and it also marks an even greater crisis for House Targaryen to come.
Overall, we'll get to see what the Seven Kingdoms looked like when Targaryen was still on the throne. As Sir Barristan Selmy once said in Game of Thrones: "King Jaehaerys told me that madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin, and when a Targaryen is born, all God will throw a coin into the air, and the whole world will hold its breath to watch it fall."
What is Blood and Fire?
The author of A Song of Ice and Fire George R.R. Martin has spent years filling the historical backdrop of Westeros with a variety of side stories and canons. One of the most important is an illustrated guide book called The World of Ice and Fire. martin intended to present a complete synopsis of House Targaryen's turbulent history in this book. But Martin later wrote the synopsis into a full-length manuscript and published it as two separate novels.
The first of them, Blood and Fire, was published in November 2018, and the title of the book comes from the Targaryen motto. It chronicles the history of seven generations of the rulers of House Targaryen, from Aegon I to his descendant Aegon III. It is speculated that the second, untitled book will continue the history of the decline of House Targaryen until their reign ends at the hands of the Mad King Aerys II. However, Martin says the book is still years away (Game of Thrones fans are accustomed to Martin dragging).
We can expect that "Dragon Family" is not a direct adaptation of "Blood and Fire", as can be seen from the name change. The book is often criticized for its more dry, historicized approach to important events in Westeros history, and is often used alongside J.R.R.Tolkien for The Lord of the Rings Wrote the prequel " Silmarillion " on a par. "Dragon House"It's likely that Blood and Fire will be the backbone of the series, telling a more narrative-driven pre-Game of Thrones story.
"The Dragon Family" cast and character list
Although "Dragon Family" was almost shrouded in the unknown before its broadcast, we still know that it was based on "Blood and Fire" and was written by Martin, Ryan Condow and Miguel Sapushnick and as executive producers. Martin and Kondol are listed as co-creators, while Kondol and Sapushnick will serve as co-producers, with Sapushnick also set to direct the pilot (he has directed several of Game of Thrones' most critically acclaimed episodes such as " Bastard War ").
Other key producers include executive producer and writer Sarah Hess, executive producers Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Geraldis and Ron Schmidt, director Claire Colin Na and Geeta V. Patel, and director and executive producer Greg Atanis.
Unsurprisingly, there are many members of House Targaryen on the show. Paddy Constantine will star as the benevolent King Viserys I Targaryen, Emma Darcy as his eldest daughter (and later failed heir to the throne) Princess Rhaenyla Targaryen, while Matt Smith as Viserys' younger brother, Prince Damon Targaryen.
Just like Game of Thrones, the show will feature many characters from all walks of life. Olivia Cooke as Rhaenyla's political rival Allison Hightower in "Dragon Family", Rhys Ifans as Viserys' Hand of the King, Allison's Father Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as wealthy adventurer Count Collis Valerian, and Fabien Frankl as poor but gifted swordsman Christon Cole Sir Harold Westerling, and Graham McTavish as Sir Harold Westerling, a member of the Kingsguard.
Here's a rundown of the Dragon Family cast:
Paddy Constin as Viserys TargaryenKing Emma D'Arcy as Princess Rhaenia Targaryen (adult) O Livia Cooke as Allison Hightower (adult) Matt Smith as Prince Damon Targaryen Steve Toussaint as Count Collis Valerian (nicknamed "Sea Serpent") Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Valerian Mizuno Sonoya as Misalia (Renella's intelligence chief) Fabien Frankel Sir Christon Cole Millie Alcock as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Young) Emily Carey as Allison Hightower (Young) Graham McTavish Sir Harold Westerling Ryan Cole as Harwin "Bonebreaker" Sir Gavin Spike as Duke Leonor Strong Jefferson Hall as Jason The Duke of Lannister and Taran Lannister's twin brother David Hollowich as Grand Scholar Merlo Bill Patterson as Earl of Lynman Beesbury Will Johnson as Warmond Vale Sir Rilian John McMillan as Sir Lannino Valerian Savannah Stein Rannell Valerian Sol Nett as Lannino Valerian (Youth)
Noteworthy The good thing is that this cast doesn't include Aegon II for the time being, but we can expect him to join the series at some point as the plot creeps deeper into the downfall of House Targaryen.
Mystery of the Valyrian Doomsday
Dragon Family may give viewers a closer look at the mysterious city of Valyria, the ancient home of the Targaryens that was once Essos (west of Westeros). continent) one of the most powerful forces. The Targaryens are one of the wealthy dragon-riding families in this technologically advanced paradise. House Targaryens, however, fled the city a century before Aegon's conquest, escaping the mysterious catastrophe that left Valyria in ruins.
in Game of Thrones, except for DanielleAside from Silk Targaryen and her dragons, the only Valyrian relics left are Valyrian steel swords possessed by some powerful lords. We know that the technology to forge these weapons has been lost along with the city itself. Even if The Dragon Family takes place after Valyria's destruction, there's always the chance that we'll see some flashbacks to the city's golden age and learn more about the events that led to its demise.
Digression: Will the familiar Game of Thrones characters return?
Game of Thrones fans hoping to see familiar faces in Dragon Family may be disappointed. Since the show is set 200 years ago, it goes without saying that the cast of characters will be completely different. But it remains to be seen how much Westeros history the show will ultimately tell. Some characters (such as Maester Aemon) are old enough to remember Targaryen's reign and the bloodshed that resulted. If in a future season, the set time is a hundred years or more, we may see more younger versions of characters like Aemon.
We could even see The Dragons delve deeper into Robert's rebellion, and if the show is going to focus on the downfall of the Mad King for the final season, it could be a way to see familiar characters like again Chances for Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark. However, Game of Thrones has explored the event through multiple flashbacks, so I suspect that the entire show may not involve this one that fans are already familiar with.
