The original musical "Going North" adapted from the Mao Dun Literature Award-winning work of the same name will premiere at the National Center for the Performing Arts Beijing Art Center from September 7th to 8th.

As a 2023 funding project of the Beijing Culture and Art Fund and the "Beijing in a Big Show" exhibition, the musical "Going North" is directed by the Propaganda Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, and produced by Beijing Radio and Television. It tells the story of the early 20th century. Xie Pingyao, the translator of the Governor's Office of Water Transport, and "Little Polo", an Italian who came to China for inspection, embarked on a journey north along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. After going through hardships, they finally found the light and established a profound friendship in the troubled times.

According to reports, the play combines music, dance, drama and traditional national skills to vividly depict the lives and destiny of people along the Grand Canal, in order to present a magnificent historical picture and profound cultural connotation to the audience.
