What does Jesus Christ look like?

For centuries, the most standard image of Jesus in Western culture is this: fair skin, a beard, long wavy light brown or golden hair, and blue eyes. The Jesus who appears in the movie is not even a handsome guy.

But, Jesus is 2,000 years old, is he really a handsome blond and blue-eyed man? The truth may be very different.

First of all, what does the "Bible" say?

According to the Gospels of the Bible, Jesus was a Jew who was born in the small Palestinian city of Bethlehem. He began preaching at the age of 30 and was crucified by the Roman governor in Jerusalem at the age of 33.

The book of Isaiah says: “Jesus looks like ordinary people—he looks ordinary.” In the book of Revelation, Jesus’ skin is dark, describing his hair as “white as white wool and as white as snow. His The eyes are like flames, and the flames are like polished bronze, as delicate as in a furnace.”

The way Jesus was tortured before he was crucified is described like this: “His face is more haggard than others, and his description is more haggard than the world.”

The "Bible" hardly describes the appearance of Jesus. Obviously, he did not excel on his appearance. When Jesus was arrested, Judas had to point him out of a group of disciples to the soldiers-presumably because they looked similar to each other.

From a scholar's point of view, since Jesus was a Palestinian Jew in the first century, his appearance may be in line with the Jewish characteristics of that era: dark complexion, dark eyes, black hair, and blond, blue eyes and white skin.

The earliest image of Jesus was discovered in Israel in recent years. On the wall of an abandoned church, there is a portrait of Jesus from about the 6th century AD. He has short hair and the outline of his face is seriously unrecognizable due to weathering.

In the West, the image of Jesus is almost divorced from reality. He was influenced by the Greek and Roman gods, especially Zeus, the king of the gods. Most of the image of Jesus was sitting on a throne in a robe with a halo on his head. With the growing prosperity of Christianity, Jesus finally developed into our recognized "standard image of Jesus."

Someone would say, did you forget the famous Shroud of Turin?

Among the relics of Jesus, the most famous and eerie Shroud of Turin emerged in 1354. This shroud has a clear face and is said to be the shroud after Jesus died. However, the Shroud of Turin was exposed twice, and the Catholic Church declared it a medieval painting.

The truth, only science can tell us.

Since the 21st century, Israeli and British scientists (forensic doctors, anthropologists and computer programmers) have recreated the image of Jesus based on Israeli skulls dating back to the first century AD, computer modeling and knowledge of Palestinian Jews . The image of

completely subverts the standard image of the Son of God because he looks too ordinary: about five feet tall, a broad peasant face, dark olive skin, short curly hair and a protruding nose.

Although we can never really describe the appearance of Jesus 2000 years ago, he cannot have blue eyes and blond hair. This rustic image is more reliable than all artistic depictions.
