This year’s station wagon family test drive is still based on the two product lines of Avant and Allroad, continuing the “two-sided journey of life” setting. The Avant model route starts from Xingyi and focuses on humanities; while the Allroad model route starts from Zunyi and focuses on adventure. Finally, the two convoys will converge in Anshun, where Huangguoshu Waterfall is located. Then swap cars and experience a different travel style.
My test drive started with an A6 Avant 45TFSI with a 2.0T engine. In November this year, Audi updated the 2024 A6 Avant model. The price remains the same as the old model, still 506,800 yuan. Compared with the old model, the most significant change in this annual upgrade is the updated honeycomb grille shape, in which dual radar modules are cleverly integrated. According to the designer, its inspiration comes from light and agile wings.
In addition, the black appearance package, matrix LED headlights, etc. are upgraded to standard equipment. If you have enough budget, you can choose high-definition matrix LED blackened headlights for an additional price. On the basis of retaining classic colors such as cyclone black, glacier white, foil silver, sky cloud gray, sky blue, star gray, and legendary black, two new exterior colors, red rabbit red and askari blue, have been added. Not only that, in addition to the new standard 19-inch graphite gray wheels, the 2024 A6 Avant also offers 7 different wheel options.
As the only province in my country without plains, Guizhou has a saying that the land is not even three feet flat. Driving here, you will often be amazed by the money-making ability of the infrastructure maniac. A lot of digging holes in the mountains and building bridges when encountering water have turned Guizhou into a veritable "museum" of bridges. According to statistics, Guizhou has more than 40 of the world's 100 tallest bridges, including the Beipanjiang Bridge, the world's tallest bridge we passed on this trip. Perfect, new high-speed roads are perfect for the A6 Avant.
Like almost all imported European cars, the A6 Avant has a short suspension stroke, tough damping, and unparalleled stability in high-speed cruising. Small gaps in the road aren't completely smoothed out, and you can feel the wheels skimming over them, but there's no jolt or discomfort caused by them. The only regret is that the 2024 A6 Avant still only provides a 2.0T engine with 265 horsepower and 370 N·m. Although it already has sufficient power reserves, it is always a bit unsatisfactory on an empty car-free highway.
As the trip entered its second day, I switched to the A6 Allroad model. The regret of not having enough power was finally made up for. However, the real advantage of the 3.0T engine is not so much its surging power and smoothness, but rather the ability to pedal it wherever you go, and still be able to pedal it more calmly.
Like the A6 Avant, the A6 Allroad model also received a 2024 facelift in November, but its changes are limited to color and configuration adjustments. In terms of color, the appearance color has been increased to Kurahara Brown and Morning Dew Silver has been cancelled. The standard interior trim strips have been changed from bright silver to gray aluminum. In terms of configuration, standard features include a mobile phone app that supports remote start, welcome lights and front and rear door sill scuff plates. After this annual facelift, the distinction between the A6 Avant and Allraod has become clearer, with the former having a more stylish and dynamic temperament, and the latter highlighting all-terrain capabilities and luxury. But the core difference between the two is that Avant only offers 2.0T, while Allroad comes standard with 3.0T, four-wheel drive and air springs.
In fact, even in the European market, the share of station wagons has long been surpassed by SUVs. In China, station wagons are equivalent to paying for feelings. From a functional perspective, perhaps the domestic A6L is the most rational choice.But as almost the most expensive personal consumer product, cars are never just means of transportation. For consumers who pursue individuality, the unique shapes and rare quantities of Avant and Allroad models are far more meaningful than larger trunk volumes and air springs. .
