The Supreme People's Court reviewed and confirmed that Lao Rongzhi and his lover Faziying jointly committed 4 robberies, intentional homicides, and kidnappings, resulting in a total of 7 deaths. The Nanchang Intermediate People's Court reported that it arranged for Lao Rongzhi to meet with his close relatives before the execution. Red Star News reporters learned from Lao Rongzhi’s family members that before his execution, Lao Rongzhi told his sister that he hoped his family members could help her pay off the debt she owed to Huabei.

Lao Rongzhi was born in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province in 1974. He was a primary school teacher at Jiujiang Petrochemical Company.
Lao Rongzhi fell in love with her boyfriend Faziying in 1994. From 1996 to 1999, Lao Rongzhi and Faziying committed many kidnappings, robberies, and murders in Nanchang, Wenzhou, Changzhou, and Hefei.
In 1999, Faziying was captured in Hefei. On December 28 of the same year, Faziying was executed according to law.
Lao Rongzhi was arrested in Xiamen on November 28, 2019, after 20 years on the run.
