On December 15, Intel officially launched the fifth generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor (codenamed Emerald Rapids). It has excellent performance in improving performance per watt1 of critical workloads such as artificial intelligence, scientific computing, networking, storage, database, and security, and reducing total cost of ownership (TCO).
is the second release of the Intel Xeon Scalable processor series within a year. Compared with the previous generation of products, the fifth generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor can operate at the same thermal design power consumption ( TDP) range provides higher computing power and faster memory. At the same time, the processor is software and platform compatible with previous generation products, allowing customers to upgrade and significantly increase the service life of their infrastructure while reducing costs and carbon emissions.
Sandra Rivera, Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Data Center and Artificial Intelligence Group, said, “The fifth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are designed to accelerate the deployment of artificial intelligence in cloud, network and edge environments. Intelligent customers deliver higher performance. Thanks to our long-term collaboration with customers, partners and the developer ecosystem, we are launching the fifth generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor on a proven basis, which will enable Customers and partners can quickly apply and expand at a lower total cost of ownership." At the
press conference, Chen Baoli, vice president of Intel Data Center and Artificial Intelligence Group and general manager of China, also pointed out in his speech, "AI is not only changing Our lifestyle is also effectively bringing changes to the development and innovation of every industry. As a leader in technological innovation, Intel has always been committed to using a comprehensive product portfolio, optimized software, diversified tools and an extensive ecosystem to enable More customers can design, deliver and deploy innovative solutions for cloud, network, edge and mass access businesses."
5th generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors feature AI acceleration on every core, eliminating the need for Add independent accelerators to handle demanding end-to-end AI workloads, including 42% improvement in inference performance for large language models with up to 20 billion parameters and sub-100 millisecond latency. 3
5th generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors deliver up to 21% better overall performance for general-purpose computing compared to the previous generation,4 and up to 36% better performance per watt across a range of customer workloads5 %. For customers who follow a typical five-year refresh cycle and upgrade from a previous-generation processor, total cost of ownership can be reduced by up to 77%6.
Compared with previous generations of products, the fifth generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors will provide customers with more innovations to improve performance and energy efficiency. The processor has up to 64 cores and a L3 cache that is nearly three times that of the previous generation. At the same time, the processor has 8 DDR5 channels, supports transfer rates of up to 5,600 MT/s, and uses Intel® Super Channel Interconnect (Intel® UPI) 2.0 to increase cross-socket bandwidth, providing up to 20 GT/s transmission. Additionally, leading cloud service providers (CSPs) with instances based on 5th Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors will be able to expand memory capacity using CXL Type 3 memory devices.
The fifth-generation Intel® A variety of single-core and dual-core processors will be available for the market to choose from in the first quarter of 2024, and mainstream CSPs will gradually launch instances based on this new product next year.
Wang Zhicong, Vice President of Intel Marketing Group and General Manager of China, said: "AI has gradually entered people's lives, and the era of intelligent, diverse and open AI has arrived. In the future, AI will be deployed hybridly and flexibly deployed on the cloud and edge. Cloud platforms will continue to provide the strongest foundation for AI training, and AI PCs with stronger computing power will allow everyone to experience the convenience brought by AI.” At the
conference, Intel officially launched the Intel® Core™ Ultra processor, which brings excellent computing and graphics performance and extraordinary AI PC experience to mobile platforms and edge computing, and announced that it will launch more than 230 models with mainstream OEM partners model, ushering in a new era of AI PC.
Michelle Johnston Holthaus, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group, said: “The release of Intel Core Ultra means that the scale and speed of Intel’s AI capabilities on the PC side are amazing. AI PC will gradually become mainstream in the next four years, accounting for 80% of the PC market share. By working with hardware and software ecosystem partners, Intel will transform the next generation computing experience. ” Intel’s “AI PC Acceleration Program” will provide software partners with engineering software and resources to enable artificial intelligence features for more than 100 million PCs by 2025.
