Interview|Alai: The characters and details in the script of "The Climber" are all from the truth

During the National Day, the three main melodies of "Me and My Motherland", "The Climber" and "Captain of China", "Tripod", carried the box office of the National Day file. Among them, "The Climber", which is adapted from real events, focuses on the theme of "climbing", an uncommon domestic movie theme, with particular attention. Both time points in

"The Climber" have real history to follow. In 1960, three members of the Chinese mountaineering team Kampot, Wang Fuzhou, and Qu Yinhua completed the world's first feat of ascending Mount Everest from the north slope, but they have not been recognized internationally because they did not leave any video data; in 1975, the Chinese mountaineering team once again Assaulting Mount Everest, a total of 9 people successfully climbed to the summit, including a female player Pando.

These two mountaineering histories interlace and flash back, forming an exciting story in "The Climber". In addition to a strong lineup of stars, "The Climber" also invited Mao Dun Literary Award winner and Tibetan writer Alai as the screenwriter. When the film was released, his literary script "The Climber" was also published by People's Literature Publishing House.

"I have always been concerned about this history." Due to the tight shooting cycle, the time left for script creation is very limited. After receiving the creative invitation, it only took Alai two weeks from the beginning of the writing to the completion of the first draft. "Alai said frankly that behind the speed is his long-term accumulation. He loves mountain climbing, and he has long understood the deeds of senior climbers, and even took the opportunity to meet many climbers back then. Alai shook hands with them and often extended his hand, only to find that the other party's sleeves were empty.

The stories that Alai has listened to over the years, as well as the real and perceptible details and feelings accumulated, have become the context and material of "The Climber". "Many of the details in the book are real and cannot be made up. . And I think that making up the heroic deeds of these ordinary people is an offense to them.”

On September 29, The Paper reporter interviewed Alai. Although the movie has already begun, he said frankly that he intends to do so. Go into the theater after a while. The final film was not the same as the literary script written by Alai. Alai stated that he published his own script because he wanted to "reserve a script that can more fully demonstrate his personality." "You can also distinguish between the movie and the original script. Comparison is a very interesting thing."

[Dialog]

completed the script in two weeks.

: It took less than two weeks to write the script. It can be said that it was done in one go. Why is it so fast?

Alai

: At this time last year, I just finished writing "A Story in the Clouds". The chairman of Shanghai Film Group, Ren Zhonglun, suddenly approached me and said that he wanted to make the scene of "The Climber" and hoped that I would write the script. At that time, the movie had been confirmed to be released during November this year, and the time was very short. It only took one year from writing the script to finishing the release. The total time left for me to write the script is only a little more than a month. Because there are too many scenes of ice and snow in the movie, it can only be filmed in winter. The filming was about to start at that time, and it was started in mid-November. After the

script was written, I later revised a version, but in those two weeks I did spend a lot of energy on writing, even when I went abroad to write.

: Before I refused to be a screenwriter for my own novels, movies and TV series, why did I agree this time? And it's creating a brand new script.

Alai

: If you adapt your own things, the story has been told before, and you will not be interested in telling it again. It is purely a codeword for money. I still hope to write a new story, "The Climber" is just written in the form of a script. Writing a new story attracts me and I can discover the things that are worth discovering in the story. But if I change it into a script after I have written a novel, I usually let others change it.

took over this script because I prefer mountains myself and I am also familiar with mountain climbing techniques. Mountain climbing is a very technical thing. I have specialized knowledge on how to untie ropes and how to use tools. Although I have not climbed to the height of Mount Everest, I still have mountaineering experience and professional knowledge.

: When I read the script, I noticed that you described a lot of very detailed and professional things about mountaineering. At that time, I was curious whether you did a lot of homework beforehand or you climbed the mountain yourself.

Alai

: As a person who often walks in the mountains, these details are still clear, otherwise you can't get up and down.

: What is the highest mountain you have climbed by yourself?

Alai

: Everyone is climbingThe purpose is different. Some people are just to create a record of climbing, we are in the mountains for more extensive investigations. I usually do not climb more than 6000 meters, because more than 5000 meters, there is generally no trace of life on the mountain. I myself hope to observe animals and plants in the world of life. Everyone who enters the mountain has a different goal and a different pursuit. I mainly observe the tenacious life of animals and plants at high altitude, not to refresh the mountaineering record. Sometimes the mountain of five or six kilometers is climbed up, but I did not deliberately go to the top.

always pays attention to the history of China's climb to Mount Everest

: I started writing immediately after receiving the script creation task, right?

Alai

: I happen to love mountain climbing. I am familiar with the deeds of senior mountaineers, and I have contact with many of them. For example, the group of 4 who hit the summit in 1960, 3 people successfully climbed to the summit, one person Almost went up, I have contacted all 4 people. After I interviewed them for the last time, three of them left in less than a year. Later, those climbers saw more. Not only did I understand how they climbed the mountain, but their personalities and experiences are different for each person, and I know how much. Without these usual accumulations, it would be impossible to hold back these things at once.

: In the process of contacting and interviewing these people, did you write any really impressive details and stories into the script?

Alai

: Those vivid details cannot be compiled. For example, it is written in the book that after Li Guoliang died, his lover later climbed Mount Everest and took his ashes to the top of the mountain. This is the story I learned later when I interviewed a female mountaineer in Tibet, although it did not happen when I climbed Mount Everest in 1975. The Tibetan mountaineering team later successfully climbed all 14 peaks higher than 8,000 meters. Among them, there was a couple whose husband died while climbing one of the mountains. Later, when the female mountaineer went to climb the mountain where her husband lost his life and failed to reach the summit, she took her husband's ashes to the top of the mountain to help him fulfill his wish, and left part of the ashes on the top of the mountain. Many of the details in the book

are true, and these cannot be made up. And I think that making up the heroic deeds of these ordinary people is an offense to them.

: There are many real characters involved in the script. For example, Xia Boyu lost his legs when he climbed Mount Everest that year. At the age of 69 last May, he became the first person to successfully climb Mount Everest without legs. At the end of the script, the character you wrote about "Xia Boyang" also climbed Mount Everest many years later.

Alai

: Yes, I named this character Xia Boyang because Xia Boyang was a Soviet combat hero. At that time, many people admired him very much. Later, the name was changed in the play, which is actually a very modern era. A name for breath (Note: Yang Guang played by Hu Ge).

I met Lao Xia during the writing period. He has successfully reached the top through commercial mountaineering now. I also wrote this paragraph at the end of the script. This is not the same as the national mission of the year, but commercial mountaineering is true. In a way, those who regretted failing to reach the summit now have the opportunity to hit Mount Everest.

: When did your attention to the history of mountaineering begin?

Alai

: I always pay attention. Nowadays, some people need to write to collect information temporarily. I think we should learn more about the world and not be so utilitarian. Now everyone is paying attention to gossip in the entertainment industry, I think it would be better to learn more about these things.

I know a lot about climbers before and I have met many people. They all paid a lot for the summit of Mount Everest. I shook hands with the people who climbed Mount Everest back then, often reaching out to find that (the other party's sleeves) were empty. When I found me in this script, it has been five or six years since I finally met and said goodbye to those climbers. At that time, I went to learn about their stories. I didn't say that I was writing something, just out of interest.

shouldn’t forget those who failed to reach the top

: Is the script now published the original version?

Alai

: This is the second draft. The reason why I came up with this book is because I know that after getting the script and making it into a movie, the producer must make changes in the end. I want to keep the original appearance of a script and a script that can more fully demonstrate my personality. You can also compare the movie with the original script. It’s a veryInteresting things.

: What impressed me a lot when I read the script is that you spent a lot of pen and ink to write about those who failed to climb Mount Everest for various reasons. Zhao Junzhao was burned, some team members were frostbited because their socks were not dried, and Xia Boyang was frostbite because of letting the sleeping bag to others. There were only a few simple strokes until the last successful summit. Why focus on these people?

Alai

: Yes, I always adhere to a more realistic style of this script. As far as literature is concerned, the victims who have worked hard but failed, their story fate has more power to move people.

is not only success in this world. Mountaineering itself is a team affair. Some people become heroes, and there are countless people's sacrifices and efforts to support them. For example, in 1960, China successfully summited Mount Everest for the first time, and Liu Lianman, who failed to reach the summit, made a great contribution. He took the stairs on the second steep step to send the other three people up, exhausting himself and had to stay. At such a high altitude, cold and hungry, everyone thought he was going to die. He also felt that he was going to die, and the oxygen his teammates left him was useless. He wrote a note saying that he would save the oxygen for his teammates when they descended the mountain, then turn off the oxygen and wait for death there. He miraculously survived after his teammate went down the mountain. But in the end, it was the three teammates who successfully climbed to the top that received more applause. It's not that they shouldn't (get these), but we shouldn't forget those who failed to climb to the top.

: You are a nature lover and you always pay attention to flora and fauna, but mountaineering seems to be more inclined to how people challenge nature. How do you see the difference?

Alai

: Mountaineering in 1960 was not the same as it is now. It was not a simple outdoor sport, but we wanted to make a mark on our own territory. At that time, mountaineering had the meaning of taking an oath of sovereignty, which was of great significance. The mountaineering in 1975 was also a large-scale scientific investigation of Mount Everest. Some scientists sacrificed there.

Of course, climbing Mount Everest today is already a very commercial activity. People who climb Mount Everest have money, and they will indeed produce a lot of garbage. Today, we must promote environmental protection, which means that climbers will take care of the environment and take the garbage up the mountain. Bringing it down does not mean that Mount Everest cannot be climbed.

Today's climbers have very complicated motives, but no matter what the motive is, while achieving the motive through climbing, remember that while completing your own legend, you cannot throw trash on the top of the mountain and leave. This It does have a burden on the Mount Everest environment. Especially after global warming, a lot of rubbish begins to seep into the water source under the mountain as the glacier melts. This really requires attention. But I also oppose the fundamentalist attitude that Mount Everest cannot be climbed, and Mount Everest is just a symbol.
