To alleviate the economic pressure of Hong Kong citizens under the epidemic, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government issued 10,000 Hong Kong dollars to permanent residents aged 18 and above. The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Luo Zhiguang, revealed on his blog on August 2 that the Hong Kong government will distribute HK$10,000 to eligible low-income people who have lived in Hong Kong for less than 7 years. The application process will be implemented at the end of September. The fund will announce details later.
Luo Zhiguang pointed out that due to social incidents and Sino-US trade frictions, Hong Kong’s economy is down. Last year’s Policy Address proposed that through the Community Care Fund, two rounds of “N no subsidy” (non-public housing, non-CSSA One-time living allowance for low-income households), the first round of allowance has received about 6000 applications as of the end of last month, and so far, about 200 applicants have received allowances.
Luo Zhiguang also admitted that the application and payment of the first round of allowances was late. The current economic situation in Hong Kong is worse than the same period last year. He hopes that the allowances can bring "timely rain" to low-income families in need. As for the second round of "N no allowance" applications, it will start in January next year, and the details will be announced later. In addition, Luo Zhiguang pointed out that starting from August 3, low-income two-person households in non-public housing and non-CSSA in Hong Kong can apply for a one-time living allowance. The allowance for eligible households is HK$9,000.
