1905 Film Network News The 4th Pingyao International Film Festival "Review" unit theme is " New Serbian film in Yugoslavia era" . The new films are being screened . Among them, 4 films of are restored world premieres, and the remaining 5 are Asian premieres; many films have been shown to the audience for the first time since 1992. This retrospective is curated by Milohub Vukovic and Marco Muller.

"New Serbian Cinema" occupies a very important position in the film history of the former Yugoslavia. This new wave of movies occurred with the modernist movement that arose in the former Yugoslavia in the early 1960s, and many outstanding new directors emerged, as well as a batch of vibrant, energetic and humanistic film works. Unlike previous films that focused on "superheroes", the directors of the new Serbian film focused on the "ordinary heroes" of the bottom of society, showing their shortcomings and difficulties. Through the newly established film club, many directors have participated in the wave of "New Yugoslavia Films" and have become film masters in their respective fields, including the originators of Serbian modern films, the winner of the Jury Award at the 20th Cannes Film Festival, Alexander Petrovich, who was nominated twice for the Academy Award for best foreign language film, and Dushan Makaviev, one of the representative figures of Yugoslavian New Wave film who has been nominated for Cannes and Berlin Film Festival many times.

The Pingyao International Film Festival "Retrospective" section of the film including "When Love is a Past" and "Three Stories" directed by Alexander Petrovich, the latter was nominated for Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film; Duchamp Markavi Yev’s "Men Are Not Birds" and "Unprotected Innocents", the latter has won the Berlin Film Festival’s 18th Silver Bear Jury Grand Prix and the Fabisci Award; Mladimir Prisa Joel "Girl" and "Dream" by Djevic; "Return" by Zivoin Pavlovich; "Festival Feast" by George Kadijevic; and Voislav Kokan Lakonca "Raindrops, Water, Soldiers" co-directed by Krzysztof, Zivoin Pavlovic, and Marko Babać.

The design elements of the theme poster of the "New Serbian Films in Yugoslavia Era" retrospective are selected from one of the films shown this time and the first feature film "Men Are Not Birds" by Dushan Makaviev, a representative of the former Yugoslavian film. The director’s lens focuses on individuals working under difficult conditions, not heroes. This feature also makes the film a benchmark for the new wave of Serbian movies. The huge posters of "workers' palms" that appear repeatedly in the film convey a strong humanistic care and concern for humanity. It also reflects the spirit of the new wave of Yugoslav Serbian films from the 1960s to the 1970s: the film is based on everydayness , Pay attention to the truth of each individual.

In addition to the "Retrospective" unit, the official unit of the Pingyao Film Festival also includes the "Crouching Tiger" unit dedicated to discovering outstanding newcomers and new works from around the world, and the "Hidden Dragon" unit of the new generation of Chinese-speaking directors, including important directors of the year andThe "premiere" unit of outstanding films that have received much attention and the "Starting from Shanxi" unit which aims to promote the development of Shanxi's film industry and promote its exchanges with the world.

The 4th Pingyao International Film Festival will be held from October 10th to 19th, 2020 at the Pingyao Movie Palace in the ancient city of Pingyao, Jinzhong, Shanxi.
