At the same time, the water temperature on the east coast of South Korea soared, causing fishermen to panic. Many fishermen are worried that the farmed fish may suffer collective death again.
The hot, humid and hot weather continues in southern Korea. Jeju, Busan, Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do and other places continue to experience "tropical nights" (the lowest night temperature is above 25°C).
Affected by the continuous hot weather within the area, Gyeongsangbuk-do East China Sea coastal water temperature changes significantly. If the water temperature continues to rise, the oxygen saturation in the seawater will decrease, which may cause collective death of the farmed fish. It is reported that Banchuan flounder farmed in this area is not tolerant to high temperature. When the culture water temperature exceeds 25°C, the reproduction of the fry will be affected.
Fishermen on the east coast of Gyeongsangbuk-do conduct real-time monitoring of water temperature. Park Sung-pei (voice), a representative of the breeding company, said that when the water temperature changes drastically, the warning system in the fishermen’s mobile phone will issue a reminder and we will take timely measures.
Recently, according to the official measurement of the National Fisheries Academy of Korea, the water temperature in the coastal area of Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province is currently maintained at about 23°C. Although cold water masses are widely distributed in South Korea's seas, and this year's cold water masses are about 2°C lower than in previous years, if the cold water masses disappear, the water temperature in the Korean seas may rise sharply. The National Fisheries Academy of South Korea stated that it will pay close attention to the temperature changes in the East Sea and is expected to issue a weather warning in the middle of this month. A person from the Fisheries Policy Office of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of South Korea said that when similar situations occurred in 2018, relevant departments immediately issued weather warnings. Currently, the department is also paying close attention to changes in water temperature.
