Lin Fengmian (1900-1991)
was born in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province in 1900. Since 1921, he has studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Dijon, France, and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After returning to China in 1926, he successively served as the principal of the National Beijing Art College and the National Hangzhou Art College (the predecessor of the China Academy of Art). Influenced by Cai Yuanpei's thought of "replacing religion with aesthetic education", Lin Fengmian was determined to promote the art movement and advocated the school policy of "freedom of thought and inclusiveness".
