Zeng Yuqun said that some device samples currently made in the solid-state battery industry have many boundary conditions in use. For example, high low-temperature performance can only be achieved at a pressure of 6,000 atmospheres, which means that these devices cannot yet be put into market applications.

In this regard, Zeng Yuqun pointed out that the key to developing all-solid-state batteries lies in the study of materials and chemical systems, of which the most difficult problem is the "solid-solid interface" problem.

Zeng Yuqun’s above-mentioned views are worthy of attention because CATL, which he is at the helm of, is the world’s leading power battery company. According to data from multiple third-party organizations, CATL’s power battery market share has ranked first in the world for many years in a row, and it has great advantages in many power battery technologies such as solid-state batteries.

Recently, CATL mentioned in an institutional survey that the company continues to invest firmly in all-solid-state batteries, and its technology is at the leading level in the industry. It is expected to achieve small batch production in 2027.

First of all, high security is the lifeline of the sustainable development of the industry. Multiple official data show that as the new energy vehicle market continues to grow, safety accidents involving new energy vehicles occur frequently.

"The focus of improving safety is the battery, and the key is the standard." Zeng Yuqun believes that currently, the safety factor of most batteries on the market is far from enough. It is hoped that the power battery industry will jointly improve safety standards and establish an absolute red line for safety standards.

Secondly, “reliability” is the competitiveness of the power battery industry. Zeng Yuqun believes that only high reliability can ensure user protection and industry development. However, the current development of the power battery industry is uneven, and there is a big gap between the true reliability of some products and the reliability required by standards.

Zeng Yuqun suggested that under the leadership of relevant government departments, the power battery industry should work together to establish "high standards" in reliability management and testing methods to ensure the "high reliability" of power battery products.

Again, high value refers to the continuous development of the power battery industry and the emergence of new application scenarios, which has given rise to higher requirements for battery performance. Batteries require innovative breakthroughs in terms of safety, reliability, energy density, fast charging, cycle life, and temperature resistance.

Zeng Yuqun believes that the current full-scale explosion of electric commercial vehicles is just around the corner, electric ships are ready to go, and electric aircraft contain a broad space for imagination. Among them, the electric aircraft field has extremely broad prospects. It is hoped that the evtol (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft) equipped with CATL batteries will be able to fly for the first time by the end of this year.

Finally, high value means that the kinetic energy output of a good battery is just a "basic function". It is hoped that it can release multi-dimensional economic and social value, and even become an "investment product".

At present, the power battery industry often discusses v2g technology, which is the linkage technology between vehicles and the power grid. It is essentially a two-way integration and interaction technology between the batteries loaded in vehicles, ships and other equipment and the power grid.

Zeng Yuqun believes that the above model can allow the battery to provide new value to consumers in places where the peak-to-valley electricity price gap is quite high, and can be used as a "mobile power bank" to balance wind, light, storage and charging in the future, even in areas where the power grid is unstable. In extreme cases, it can also be used as a power source.
