Xiangxiang is a wild giant panda, presumably born in 1999. When he was discovered by the rescue team, his left hind foot had obvious suppurative trauma, and he had to have it amputated. He later lived in a local large panda. Panda Conservation and Research Center Ya'an Base, and then transferred to Dujiangyan Base. Fei Xiang has adopted Xiangxiang since 2004. He had previously flown to the local area to meet Xiangxiang.

Xiangxiang died of illness on the 12th of this month. It was initially determined that the cause of death was old age accompanied by heart disease and multiple organ failure. After learning the news, Fei Xiang posted a message of condolence. He lamented that he received new photos of Xiangxiang’s life last month, and now hopes that it can walk freely on the panda planet.

Fei Xiang will make a special trip to Sichuan to visit Xiangxiang in 2023. He said that the first time he met Xiangxiang was 20 years ago. In the blink of an eye, Xiangxiang was already 23 years old, which is considered an advanced age among pandas. Fei Xiang said that Xiangxiang was in good health at the time, with a bit of high blood pressure and a very docile personality. "It was a rare occasion that I gave him his favorite carrots, bamboo, and cornstarch."

Xiangxiang was originally in good health, but after entering old age, his health began to decline. In July, he began to lose appetite and even stopped eating. At that time, veterinarians and breeders tried hard to get Xiangxiang to eat liquid feed in the hope of supplementing his nutrition, but in the end they were unable to save Xiangxiang's life.
