Dialogue:
will integrate Huizhou local music elements into concerts in the future
Reporter: After living here for 30 years, what special emotions does the city of Huizhou have for you?
Wang Yiqing: I came to Huizhou from Changsha in 1994. This is a city that makes me feel at ease. The old campus of Huizhou University used to be by the West Lake. No matter what happened, as long as I returned to the campus, the beautiful mountains all over the city would calm my heart. Over the years, whether I have returned to Huizhou from Guangzhou or returned to Huizhou from Hunan, I have a particularly peaceful feeling when I return here. It can be said that "this peaceful place is my hometown."
Reporter: Since 2015, you have held a concert every year. How do you persist?
Wang Yiqing: At the beginning, we did not deliberately ask to hold a concert every year. Vocal music teaching emphasizes not only standing firmly on the podium, but also on the stage. At that time, I wanted to build a professional performance platform for students, so I tried to move the podium to the stage and bring students to perform on the same stage to let more people understand the vocal culture. Unknowingly, this year it was the 10th performance.
Reporter: There is a concert every year, and the theme is different every year. Why is this year’s theme set as “Eternal Melody”?
Wang Yiqing: We thought that the concert would not only allow the audience to experience the beauty of music, but also, wouldn’t it be wonderful if the audience could appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture, trace the roots of China, have a dialogue with the classics, and communicate with the ancients through music. So I decided on a theme for each year.Last year's theme was "Inviting the Bright Moon, Harmony and Beauty" Chinese art song concert, which integrated the unique charm of traditional poetry into music. This year's theme is "Eternal Melody", which selects songs with red themes since the founding of New China. They are not only familiar songs to everyone, but also carry the prosperous years since the founding of New China, as well as the people's good expectations for the future.
Reporter: Will the concert meet the audience as scheduled next year? Have you considered incorporating local Huizhou music elements into it?
Wang Yiqing: We will strive to hold a concert every year. Next, we will strengthen creative innovation, invite more outstanding composers to participate in adaptation, and further try to integrate traditional excellent music such as Huizhou Hakka folk songs and Huidong fishermen songs, so that more The masses get to know and fall in love with Huizhou through Bel Canto.
