"I Love Peach Blossoms" is based on the collection of parody novels "Xing Shiyan" published during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty. It also adapted the Tang legend "Feng Yan Zhuan" into the drama. It was caused by a misunderstanding between lovers. The whole play uses allegorical elements. The form interprets a "play within a play". The protagonist in the play is both an actor in a modern theater troupe and a character rehearsing a story from the Tang Dynasty. The actor travels back and forth between ancient and modern times, exploring the eternal issues of human nature and emotions.
