The national intangible cultural heritage Ji'an tea-picking opera "Salt and Salt" will be performed at Beijing Tianqiao Art Center from April 14th to 15th. The play reproduces the history of the Red Army's insistence on "salt with the masses, and salt without salt" with the masses during the revolutionary struggle in Jinggangshan.
The story in the play took place in Jinggangshan in the late 1920s. Qixiu, a folk song girl from a poor family, was forced to marry a landlord as a concubine. Her voice of sorrow aroused the concern of the passing Red Army; in order to rescue Qixiu, the Red Army took the precious Half a jar of salt was given as a gift, and this "half jar of salt" and the back of the Red Army soldier were like a seed taking root and sprouting in Qixiu's heart...
Ji'an tea-picking opera originated in the early Ming Dynasty, formed in the late Qing Dynasty, and became popular in Ji'an, Jiangxi and surrounding areas. It has spawned red songs such as "Ten Sends to the Red Army" and was selected into the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative project list expansion projects in 2021.
According to reports, "Salt and Salty" was created and staged by the Ji'an Tea-Picking Song and Dance Theater, written by Luo Zhou and directed by Tong Weiwei. It uses Jiangxi's characteristic tea-picking tunes and folk songs such as "Fan Sichuan Diao" and "Bie Dian Diao".
