The protagonist of this work is Dai Igarashi (played by Ryo Yoshizawa) whose parents are deaf. The film tells the story of Ada, who has been working as a translator for his mother since he was a child. As he gradually became unable to bear the special looks from people around him, he adopted a cold attitude towards his mother and left home for Tokyo when he was 20 years old. A few years later, one day when I returned to my hometown, the longing for my mother suddenly emerged from the depths of my memory.
This work is adapted from Igarashi's autobiographical essay "Thirty Things I Thought About Being Born in a Deaf Family and Traveling Between the Hearing World and the Inaudible World." Wu Miho is the director, and the screenwriter of the Japanese version of "The Hidden Corner" is Minato Takehiko. The roles of mother and father in the film are played by deaf actors Akiko Ninzu and Akito Imai.
