According to reports, 50-year-old Angie Zhao is the youngest of the six daughters of Dr. Zhao Xicheng, the founder of Foremost Group, and the sister of former U.S. Secretary of Labor and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. She has been interested in shipping since she was a child.

According to reports, Zhao Anji graduated from Harvard University in just three years, and later obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School.
During her studies at Harvard University, Anji Zhao showed expertise in the shipping industry. She wrote a case study on shipping finance in the "ocean carriers industry" that was adopted by Harvard Business School and published in "Financial Cases" Published in the Seminar series. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy also expressed its deepest condolences to the Zhao family on social media. "Angie was a trailblazer in the shipping industry and a true friend to our college. Her grace, compassion and leadership will be remembered by all who knew her. Our hearts are with the Zhao family at this sad time." The college wrote.
