my country's first national standard for river ecological safety assessment, the "Technical Guidelines for River Ecological Safety Assessments" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines"), was officially released recently. The standard is led by the China Academy of Environmental Sciences and the China Institute of Standardization and jointly drafted by more than 20 domestic scientific research institutes, universities, enterprises and institutions, and will be implemented on April 1, 2024.
"Guide" clarifies the concept of river ecological security, stipulates the principles, work processes, indicator systems and evaluation methods for river ecological security assessment, and proposes river ecological environmental pressure, river ecosystem health, river ecological service functions, and river ecological risks. The indicator system, calculation methods and assignment standards of 4 special indicators, 12 sub-indicators, and 28 evaluation indicators have established grading standards and result expression forms that represent the degree of ecological security of rivers. The release of the
"Guide" has made up for the shortcomings of the previous river ecological security assessment indicator systems and methods that were not unified and the assessment results could not be quantitatively benchmarked. It will promote the protection and management of key river basins such as the Yangtze River and the Yellow River and safeguard the water ecological security of the construction of a beautiful China. The bottom line provides important technological support. (CCTV reporter Jiang Xiaoping)
