The report shows that the Yangtze River Delta Regional Collaborative Innovation Index has grown from 100 points in 2011 (base period) to 262.48 points in 2022. In addition, in the ranking of collaborative innovation capabilities of 41 cities in three provinces and one city, Shanghai continues to play a leading role, followed by Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, and Hefei, becoming an important hub for cross-regional collaborative innovation in the Yangtze River Delta. The report shows that the Yangtze River Delta’s innovation resources are gathering at an accelerated pace. The R&D investment intensity in the Yangtze River Delta region reached 3.23%, exceeding the national average by nearly 0.7 percentage points. The Yangtze River Delta region has 76.20 person-years of R&D personnel per 10,000 people, which is nearly twice the national average. The number of shared large-scale instruments in the Yangtze River Delta has reached more than 40,000, with a value exceeding 52.2 billion yuan, providing an important platform for promoting open innovation cooperation. The accelerated gathering of people, finance and materials has provided solid support for the three provinces and one city to achieve "leap-forward development" in key areas.
In addition, the integration of science and technology in the Yangtze River Delta is accelerating. The number of international scientific and technological paper collaborations in the Yangtze River Delta region reached 27,916, an increase of 50% from 2018. All 41 cities are deeply involved in the regional scientific research cooperation network. The number of patent transfers in the Yangtze River Delta reached 35,504 and 10,640 joint invention patents, an increase of 3.55 times and 1.77 times respectively compared with 2018. The turnover of technology contracts between the three provinces and one city reached 186.345 billion yuan, an increase of 4.19 times compared with 2018. The efficient transformation of scientific and technological achievements in three provinces and one city has made an important contribution in radiating and driving innovation and development across the country.
Industrial innovation in three provinces and one city has accelerated development. The profits of the high-tech industries in the Yangtze River Delta reached 466.1 billion yuan, an increase of 34.32% compared with 2018, accounting for 1/4 of the profits of the national high-tech industries. The total industrial output value of enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta National High-tech Zone was 8,369.017 billion yuan, an increase of 62.63% compared with 2018, accounting for nearly 30% of the total industrial output value of enterprises in the national high-tech zones. As of September 2023, the number of cross-regional investment companies by listed companies in the Yangtze River Delta region between three provinces and one city has reached 5,389. A large number of chain-owner enterprises have carried out cooperative division of labor and strong chain coordination around the development of the three provinces and one city, and have incubated batches of innovative enterprises with key core technologies.
