China News Service, Beijing, January 18 (Wei Xianghui) The recent warm temperature pattern is about to be broken. According to the China Meteorological Administration, the first cold wave weather process in 2024 will begin to affect central and eastern my country on the 20th, and temperatures will drop significantly in many places.
The central and eastern parts of the country start a severe cooling mode
It is expected that from January 20 to 23, my country will encounter the first cold wave weather process in 2024. The central and eastern regions will experience severe cooling and strong winds; the temperature line of 0℃ will press southward to northern South China; Along with the strong cooling, from the 21st to the 22nd, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi and other places will experience freezing rain and snow, and the snowfall can reach blizzards and local heavy snowfalls.
"After the 23rd, starting from the 24th, the temperature will gradually rise." Ma Xuejian, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said at the cold wave and snowstorm online ventilation meeting held by the China Meteorological Administration.
Ma Xueqian said that the reason why the temperature in the south is hot and cold is mainly related to the cold air activity. In the early stage, the cold air force was relatively weak and its path was northerly, mainly affecting the northern region. The cold air force affecting the southern region of my country is relatively weak, so the weather in the southern region is significantly higher than normal.
"Affected by this cold wave, the temperature in the southern region will drop significantly. This is related to the phased characteristics of cold air activity." Ma Xuejian said.

Some areas in the south need to prevent the impact of low temperature freezing damage
Ma Xueqian reminded that the strong wind cooling and rain, snow and freezing weather brought by this cold wave will have a certain impact on agriculture.
Among them, some facility agriculture and terrestrial vegetables in central and southern Shaanxi and western Hubei, eastern Guizhou, northern and western Hunan, and northern Jiangxi are at risk of low-temperature freezing damage and snow disasters, which can easily lead to the collapse of greenhouses, including the growth of vegetables. Wait slowly.
Southern rapeseed will also have some risk of freezing damage. Among them, rapeseed in southern Shaanxi, southern Anhui and central and southern Jiangsu may suffer moderate to severe freezing damage, and some rapeseeds are relatively weak in growth. After being frozen, some dead seedlings may appear.
Some aquatic products and poultry and livestock from economic forest and fruit farming in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River may suffer from low temperature freezing damage. Terrestrial vegetables and tropical fruits in northern and central South China are prone to slow growth and damage.
Feng Lei, a senior engineer at the Public Meteorological Service Center of the China Meteorological Administration, reminded that Guizhou, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Guangxi and other places have a higher risk of heavy snowfall and low-temperature rain, snow and freezing disasters. The public should pay attention to adding clothing to keep warm. In the south, Self-heating users need to pay attention to the safety of electricity and coal, avoid carbon monoxide poisoning indoors, and relevant departments need to do a good job in ensuring energy supply. The snowfall in the south is widespread and intense, and the freezing rain and snow have a huge impact on traffic. It is recommended to ensure traffic safety. management work. (End)
