According to the Beijing Daily client, the famous film educator, director, and actor Ma Jingwu died of illness on November 30 at the age of 86.
On November 30, Ishikawa @青海一剑 and @Director Xie Fei, vice chairman of the China Broadcasting Federation Actors Committee and Shanghai Filmmakers Association, professor and doctoral supervisor at the Shanghai Theater Academy, etc., posted messages of condolences.
Ma Jingwu was born in 1938. He graduated from Beijing Film Academy in 1960 and stayed at the school to teach with excellent results after graduation. From 1977 to 1980, he served as a member of the leading group of the Performance Department. He once served as the leader and chief teacher of the performance teaching and research group.
The main courses offered by Ma Jingwu’s teaching include: "Performing Art", "Film Performance Theory", and "Film and Television Performance Creation Practice". Direct the rehearsal and performance of graduation multi-act plays. He has written about 30,000 words of performance textbooks, theoretical articles and books, and actor performance reviews, and written about 200,000 words of scripts.
In addition to teaching, he also actively participated in performances, playing the role of Zhang Jinfa in "Cotai Strip" and "Sunny Day". He has attracted much attention for his roles as Master Huiming in Tsui Hark's film "Seven Swords" and as Yin Taichang in Feng Xiaogang's film "The Banquet".
In 1981, he directed the movie "The Girl Carrying the Plate" and other films. In 1986, he wrote and directed the TV series "The Romance of the West Chamber", "An Encounter with Ma Zhou", etc.
When Ma Jingwu was in high school in Urumqi, the "People's Daily" published the film school's enrollment information. At that time, teachers and classmates were eager for him to take the exam, and Ma Jingwu was moved. "The nineteen-day journey from Urumqi to Beijing was really hard, but I finally passed the exam." Ma Jingwu recalled in an interview with the "My Movie Story" column of the movie channel.
After graduating from the Beijing Film Academy, Ma Jingwu stayed at the school to teach with excellent results. During his decades of teaching career, he trained a large number of outstanding actors such as Tang Guoqiang, Song Chunli, Zhang Jiayi, Yu Feihong, and Liu Yijun.
His wife Li Ranran, who is also a teacher at Nortel, recalled that when Ma Jingwu taught in the Performance Department of Nortel in 1987, he invited more than 20 students in the class to go home and cooked for them personally, "So we will see you after graduation. They are all like family members, if you love them, they will naturally love you."
On the occasion of Teacher's Day in 2013, his students Zhang Zijian, Zhang Jiayi, Shao Bing and others were guests on "A Date in Luyu" to celebrate the 50th golden wedding anniversary of Ma Jingwu and his lover Li Ranran.

In 2013, he won the 14th China Film and Performing Arts Society "Golden Phoenix Award" Special Honor Award.
In August 2021, the movie "The Lie Detector" in which he participated was released. He played Zuo Nan's father in the film. This was also his last performance.
