Mikel Arteta was delighted with Arsenal's performance against Brighton on Sunday, saying it was "a delightful game" from start to finish.

Gabriel Jesus nodded home from behind and Kai Havells secured the three points late on.

It was one of the Gunners' best performances of the season and Arteta said the win was "fully deserved".

The Spanish manager said: "Incredible performance. It was a pleasant game from start to finish.

We played this way against a very strong team. Even at half-time , the score didn’t reflect that. We absolutely deserved to win the game.

“We had 15 shots on goal in the first half, which is a lot. We must keep working hard. We don't have that accuracy in front of goal.

On the danger of Brighton's equalizer in a 1-0 draw, Arteta added: "This is the Premier League. You see it in every game. We had many chances to put the ball in the net, but we didn't do it. 1-0 was not enough.

Haviers performed well again and Arteta said he showed the performance expected of the German in the attacking end.

He said: "In terms of goals, yes. Performance-wise, he's exactly the same as he was at the start of the season.

You can see he is confident and enjoying his football. "

The performance of the players was in stark contrast to the performance against Brighton by Arteta's side at the end of last season, when they lost 3-0.

Arteta added that there was some extra motivation on Sunday to win the game.

He said: “I thought our first half last season was really good. We should have scored one or two goals but we didn't. That was my concern at halftime. But when we conceded goals, the team collapsed because we lacked belief.

"Today we showed our determination to beat them from the beginning to the end and we managed to do it."
