Maoyan Professional Edition data shows that as of 21:00 on August 31, the 2024 summer season (June 1-8 31) ended with a score of 11.633 billion. The total number of moviegoers was 284 million, and the total number of screenings was 38.247 million, breaking the record for the total number of summer screenings in Chinese film history. During the period, a total of 26 films exceeded 100 million, the highest number in the past six years.
This year’s summer box office and movie attendance dropped significantly compared with the same period last year. During the period, only two films made more than 1 billion in box office. Among them, " " became this year's summer box office champion with a box office of more than 3.2 billion. It also broke the box office record for summer comedy films in Chinese film history and is currently ranked third in the annual box office list. The second highest-grossing film in the schedule is "", which has a box office of over 1.3 billion and is also the box office champion of suspense and crime films so far this year. The third place is the imported film " Alien: Death Ship ", which has a box office of more than 600 million, becoming a "dark horse" at the end of this summer's season.
