It can even be said that his performance held up the entire movie. Not surprisingly, Uncle Ge was nominated for Best Actor in advance.

The artistic film director Gu Changwei, who has produced " Peacock " and " Beginning of Spring ", also announced his return through this film, sweeping away the haze of several previous commercial films.

Although the original author of the novel participated in the film adaptation, the final appearance, background and core of the movie are already distinct from the original work.

This film may be liked by many people, but it may also disappoint those who like the original work.

The original mysterious magical realism in the novel has disappeared, and the folk custom of "showing the fairy" has been completely negated.

The past of the male protagonist King’s battle group chose a compromising magic change.

But compared with the original work, the movie has a warmer and poetic expression.

1. Who is the King of Fighters?

Wang Zhantuan, played by Ge You, is an alien in the eyes of people around him. Due to mental problems, he was retired early and lived a life like a wandering cloud and wild crane.

Playing chess, drinking soda, and reading books constitute his entire life.

The movie attributes his illness to two months of confinement.

Longing for the Pacific Ocean, he was locked in the cargo hold at the bottom of the ship when he first boarded the ship because, as a seaman, he reported the captain for smuggling.

Asking but not getting it makes people crazy. This reason does not seem to be completely convincing, especially when compared with the original work.

In the novel, Wang Zhantuan is a naval soldier who is well-read and versatile.

was admired by the captain and the political commissar and both wanted to win over him, but he was timid and unwilling to take sides.

One night, he suddenly started talking in his sleep, criticizing the captain and the political commissar for being useless and despicable people. He ended up raping their mothers by spewing sweet scents.

When he woke up, his five roommates, the captain and the political commissar were already sitting upright, preparing to start liquidating him.

His future was ruined and he was kicked out of the navy early.

Later, the captain realized his conscience and asked his comrades to introduce him to the work of the military factory.

However, because he often fell ill, the factory thought he was embarrassed and dismissed him early, but his salary was still paid.

In the movie, it was the other way around. The captain was dismissed for smuggling, but after he came out, he got a job through the introduction of Wang Zhantuan, who worked actively in the factory.

As a result, the fate of the Wang Group being persecuted changed in the book.

He became an idiot who was not understood, and everyone around him advised him to be normal.

Over the years, he has long been integrated into it. His attitude towards his wife who is struggling to treat herself is, "If you are happy, I will be happy."

He could recite the entire text of "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". When he talked about the wonders of the seabed, no one around him paid attention, except for the young Zhou Zheng, who was fascinated.

Zhou Zheng does not believe that there are flying fish in the world. Wang Zhantuan said that people can fly, and fish can also fly.

The kings climbed up to the roof, woven two wings with green onions, and jumped off the northeastern tiled roof on a winter night, "flying" in a strange arc.

Zhou Zheng was dumbfounded, and from then on he regarded his uncle, who was 40 years older than him, as his idol.

The King’s Battle Group may be in a fog at ordinary times, but they are not ambiguous at all on major matters.

When his daughter got married, he, who suffered from leg disease, had the good sense not to attend, just so as not to embarrass his daughter.

He climbed to the top of the chimney, smoked his wedding cigarette and shouted towards his daughter’s wedding car, wishing you a happy wedding!

When her granddaughter was born, my wife couldn’t take care of both the older and younger children, so she chose to feed him sleeping pills in order to keep him in bed without causing trouble to the family.

He accepted it silently, but occasionally talked in his sleep again, so don’t rush to eat.

His son got married without a wedding room, so he asked to be admitted to a mental hospital. He said it was "The whistle in the distance has sounded" and "I want to go to the sea I long for."

In the mental hospital, he cut out his own face in the family photo and flushed it into the sewer. The photo was still placed in the clothes close to his chest.

He took care of everyone, but lost himself.

Later, the son who drove a bus unfortunately died in a car accident.

The van from the mental hospital drove directly to the place where his son was cremated. He was in pain beyond words. He could only stretch out his hand to grab a wisp of smoke after his son's cremation and treasure it in his heart.

However, when faced with Zhou Zheng, a child who had a similar experience to him, he tried his best to protect him and did not want the other person to make the same mistakes as him.

2, Everyone is the King Battle Group

Wang Junkai plays Zhou Zheng, who has a relatively large age span. He played from about 15 to 30 years old. His interaction with the Wang Battle Group was mainly when he was repeating the third grade of junior high school.

Zhou Zheng was regarded as an alien because of his stuttering. His parents, classmates and teachers all discriminated against him to varying degrees.

As a result, his academic performance has always been at the bottom of the class, and he just went to the fifth grade of junior high school.

In order to make him "normal", his parents searched for traditional Chinese and Western medicine and traveled back and forth between Shenyang and Beijing. Acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine, and reading while biting on a stone are everywhere in the film.

Even he laughed at himself, "I have accepted the reality that I stutter, but my parents are tormenting me to become addicted."

Only his uncle Wang Zhantuan thought Zhou Zheng was a normal child and taught him to play chess and read.

When the two of them drank Chinese medicine together, he drank Zhou Zheng's medicine directly on the pretext of tasting it. In his opinion, the child did not need to take medicine at all.

Once in the mountain forest, the old man and the young man met a hedgehog. Wang Zhantuan, who had leg disease at that time, thought that eating the hedgehog could cure his disease, so he roasted it and ate it.

The curious Zhou Zheng was also stuffed with two mouthfuls, so that many years later, he still remembered that the taste of hedgehog meat was very similar to chicken.

When Wang Zhantuan was put under "house arrest" at home by his aunt who fed him medicine, Zhou Zheng accidentally learned the truth.

He angrily threw away all the medicines, and he was the only one who heard his uncle's words in his sleep, "Don't rush to take it if you are dead."

html Zhou Zheng was tortured by school and family so much that he had no intention of going to school. His family had no choice but to resort to a big trick and ask the goddess Zhao to take action again.

Goddess Teacher Zhao represents the third master of the Bai family. She regards the hedgehog as her biological father, and she is one of the "Hu, Huang, Bai, Willow and Gray" families.

Although the climactic dance scene in the original novel was retained, it was changed beyond recognition.

In the novel, it was because of Teacher Zhao’s spell that Zhou Zheng lived a normal life from then on.

In the film, when Zhou Zheng was beaten with a mahogany sword by Teacher Zhao until his mouth was full of blood, he chose to resist and even uttered wild words, "I have also eaten hedgehogs, and I have eaten your father."

When the family was embarrassed and Teacher Zhao was shocked, Wang Zhantuan called the police to alleviate the farce and completely eliminate the influence of magic in the original work.

In the film, Wang Zhantuan is admitted to a mental hospital. His story seems to have come to an end after the death of his son. The continuation in the film seems to me to be a stroke of genius.

Zhou Zheng went to visit Wang's battle group. Wang, who had already compromised his fate, seemed to have regained some of his former appearance.

Especially after Zhou Zheng left, he stood in front of the window and stared at the outside world, crushing the medicine for his illness in his hand.

When Zhou Zheng was taking the college entrance examination, Wang Zhantuan chose to cheer him up by escaping from the mental hospital.

There is not a single preaching word in the whole film. Wang Zhantuan seems to be infecting Zhou Zheng with his actions, as if to say, Please take control of your destiny in your own hands.

Later, Zhou Zheng achieved worldly success. He became a seaman and became the third mate on the ship. However, in order to take revenge on his original family, he chose not to return home for 7 years.

After returning home, the mother lamented her son's luck and thought that he almost became the king of the battle group.

Zhou Zheng retorted, Only Wang Zhantuan treats me as a normal person, and I am Wang Zhantuan.

The mother cried and begged her son for forgiveness.

Zhou Zheng said the top line of the film, I can't forgive you.

This sentence does not forgive, it represents not only Zhou Zheng, but also the Wang Group.

How can those who were persecuted and their ruined lives be forgiven so easily?

3, The Hedgehog Eater

The third master of the Bai family is the father worshiped by Teacher Zhao, that is, the hedgehog.

The King's regiment dared to eat hedgehogs and even gave the meat to the child Zhou Zheng. This was simply treasonous in the eyes of people with White Sect beliefs.

After Teacher Zhao learned that his own father had been eaten, he never forgave Wang Zhantuan. Thinking that Zhou Zheng was young and ignorant, he turned a blind eye.

In the film, no matter whether it is Wang Zhantuan's mental illness or Zhou Zheng's stuttering, these diseases seem to be unable to be cured by normal methods and can only rely on magic.

Wang Zhantuan ate a hedgehog, and in the novel he could only die in a mental hospital.

But the movie gave him a poetic ending in . He escaped from the mental hospital and finally set off towards the sea he longed for.

In the novel, Zhou Zheng returned to normal due to the dancing master. In the movie, he changed from a submissive to a rebel, and he refused to accept the ceremony.

The movie may hope that the audience will believe that he felt the tragic fate of his uncle, chose to study hard, and changed his destiny by passing the college entrance examination.

The ocean life that the Wang Group has been dreaming of all their lives has been realized in Zhou Zheng. This is not only a kind of inheritance, but also a balance between personal pursuit and worldliness.

It’s just a pity that the story of the talented warrior who ruined his future by talking in his sleep can only be found in books.
