In 2019, Shanghai Huai Opera Troupe established the "Huai Opera Academy System", with famous Huai Opera masters personally demonstrating and conducting a series of teaching such as body guidance, program standardization, and vocal training. It also proposed a "five-year plan" to rehearse one major drama a year, allowing young actors to "act instead of train." Young actors studied and rehearsed five classic traditional plays, "The Legend of White Snake", "Wang Baochuan", "The Female General of the Yang Family", "Zhao Wuniang" and "Shui Man Sizhou". In 2023, they will rehearse the urban New Huaihe drama "The Golden Dragon and the Mayfly". The troupe has also spared no effort in inheriting classic excerpts. With one-on-one teaching by famous teachers, it has staged more than ten classic excerpts such as "Sweeping the Book of Songs", "Pearl Tower·Giving the Tower", and "Wu Han Three Kills·Three Kills".
