Chen Hongjun started learning shadow puppetry at the age of 7. Later, he studied under Qin Ligang, the representative inheritor of the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage projects of shadow puppetry (Yunmeng Shadow Puppetry), and soared in the sky of shadow puppetry performance art.

Today, 53-year-old Chen Hongjun is still active on the stage of shadow puppetry, traveling all over the country.

"Huang Xiang, the filial son of the Han Dynasty, was from Yunmeng, and shadow puppets are the artistic treasure of Yunmeng. Therefore, it is most appropriate to use shadow puppet art to show Huang Xiang's story. This is also an inheritance of filial piety culture!" Chen Hongjun said , in June this year, the script of "The Fan Pillow and the Quilt" entered the creation stage, and he has been busy making the shadow puppet props for this play. In order to make the props for Huang Xiang's bedroom, Chen Hongjun carefully carved, painted and colored on a rectangular piece of film. He consulted relevant books and learned that ancient beds had wooden steps.
