Counting from the time when I was 19 years old and came to the mainland alone with my luggage to study, I will be "three years old" Chen Yanming, a young man from Taoyuan, Taiwan, has been "landed" for 11 years.
On the 22nd, Chen Yanming, who lives in Chongqing, said in an interview that she was determined to take root in the oral health cause in mainland China, and while popularizing oral health concepts, she would also provide assistance for cross-strait medical and health exchanges.
With the support of his family, Chen Yanming passed the Jinan University major in Stomatology in 2013. After five years of undergraduate and three years of postgraduate study, he now works as a pediatrician in the Department of Oral Medicine of Chongqing Dental Hospital.
Chen Yanming’s master’s research direction is “Children’s Oral Medicine”. During her studies, while learning theoretical knowledge, she also accumulated a lot of experience through external exchanges, hospital consultations, and participation in academic conferences.
Because the patients are basically children under the age of 12, Chen Yanming not only has to practice "internal strength", but also uses more patience to give them emotional value. For example, the speech rate is deliberately slowed down during treatment to relieve the child's nervousness; cartoons are played in the clinic, medical tools are compared to elephant trunks, etc. to create a relaxing situation.

Chen Yanming mentioned that as oral medical technology becomes increasingly mature, the industry is paying more and more attention to "comfort treatment" for children. This not only brings convenience to practitioners, but also enhances public awareness of dental health protection. "We have always emphasized that to protect oral health, prevention should be greater than treatment and should start early." Chen Yan said that if prevention is done well, it can greatly alleviate the patient's pain and reduce the cost of treatment.
To popularize oral health knowledge, she and her colleagues often go to free clinics in communities and squares to distribute promotional brochures. They also go to kindergartens and primary schools to provide oral education and apply fluoride regularly to children. Chen Yanming said that compared with "passively waiting for patients", "active publicity" is more oriented to the public. Through hard work, parents gradually brought their children to the hospital and asked for fluoride application. Chen Yanming said with a smile: "I feel a sense of accomplishment at this time."
After entering the workplace, Chen Yanming paid more attention to cross-strait medical exchanges and learned about Taiwan's advanced Clinical experience and services are shared with colleagues. In her view, Taiwan's dental medicine started early and has a mature diagnosis and treatment system, while the mainland's oral health market has broad prospects, and both sides of the Taiwan Strait can complement each other's strengths and seek common development.
In addition to a fulfilling career, Chen Yanming also gained a sweet love in mainland China. She developed a relationship with her classmate and entered into marriage together in 2023. From "knowing nothing" about the mainland to "settling and taking root", Chen Yanming said that his determination came not only from the support of his family, but also from the opportunities surging in the mainland.
"It was only after I entered university that I really got to know the mainland." Chen Yanming told reporters that his feelings for the mainland have become more profound as he grows older, not only because of the love and friendliness among classmates, the enthusiasm and selfless uprightness among colleagues, but also the experiences he has encountered In times of difficulty, relevant departments provide warmth and help to Taiwan compatriots.
In his spare time, Chen Yanming is keen to experience local culture through cultural scenery and better integrate into the city. Nowadays, she has long been accustomed to life in her "second hometown" Chongqing. Not only does she like eating spicy food, she also actively promotes the mountain city to attract more relatives and friends to "log in" to check it out.
In June 2024, Chen Yanming held a wedding in Chongqing and invited more than a dozen Taiwanese relatives and friends to attend the ceremony. Why are houses in Chongqing built on mountains, and how do tracks pass through buildings? For more than a week, Chen Yanming transformed into a tour guide to answer questions. Seeing his relatives and friends breaking stereotypes, marveling at the rapid development of the mainland, and saying that they would come here more often in the future, Chen Yanming felt that he was becoming a link connecting the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
