Recently, many places in northern my country have been hit by a cold vortex and cold air. The temperature has plummeted, wind and sand are raging, lightning and thunder, and heavy rain have brought a very special spring weather experience to many places. However, this is just an episode in the spring weather. As the cold air subsides, a strong hot and dry air mass is about to attack, and the temperature in many places in northern my country begins to rise.
1. Dry and hot air masses attack on May Day
Central Meteorological Observatory monitoring data shows that in the past day, strong winds and sandy weather occurred in parts of northern my country. Winds were strong in central Inner Mongolia, with local gusts reaching level 9 to 10; eastern and southern Xinjiang Sand or floating dust weather occurred in some areas in the Xinjiang Basin, central and eastern Gansu, southern Ningxia, central Shaanxi, and central and southern Henan. It is expected that in the next three days, the temperature will rise significantly in most parts of the north. In particular, the maximum daytime temperature in southern North China, Huanghuai and other places will exceed 28 degrees, and major cities such as Tianjin, Shijiazhuang and Zhengzhou are expected to hit 30 degrees.
But in fact, after this warming, during the May Day period, a more powerful continental warm ridge will be formed, and more dry and hot air masses will attack eastward, bringing a large-scale warming process to the north. Some areas have It may set a new temperature record this year. The forecast of the
supercomputer points out that in the oscillating westerly belt fluctuations, after the end of the cold vortex activity at the end of April, an extremely strong continental warm ridge will soon cover the northern region of my country. Under the cover of the continental warm ridge, dry conditions will quickly form in the inland areas. The hot air mass will attack eastward, and temperatures in North China, Huanghuai, and Northeast China will rise significantly during May Day.
The continental warm ridge refers to a high-pressure ridge formed on the continent. Its main characteristics are warmth and stability. The formation of continental warm ridges is related to surface heating. When the surface is subject to strong solar radiation, a large amount of heat will be generated, causing the temperature of the air near the surface to increase, the density to decrease, and the pressure to increase, forming a high-pressure ridge. The existence of the continental warm ridge will block the southward flow of cold air and inhibit the development of convective clouds, resulting in clear weather and less clouds, and the temperature will continue to rise, forming a positive feedback process.
2. 30 degrees is basically guaranteed to enter the Northeast!
Hot and dry air mass refers to an air mass formed in inland areas. Its main characteristics are dryness and heat. The formation of hot and dry air masses is closely related to changes in atmospheric circulation. We know that the climate in northern my country is affected by the westerly belt, which is a prevailing wind that blows from west to east. Its intensity and location change with changes in seasons and weather systems. In the westerly belt, some low-pressure systems, such as cold vortices and westerly troughs, often appear, which will bring cooling and precipitation to the north. However, when the westerly belt oscillates, there will be some high-pressure systems, such as continental warm ridges, which will bring warming and drought to the north. The forecast of the
supercomputer pointed out that under the control of the continental warm ridge, a large number of hot and dry air masses began to form due to surface heating in inland areas. Its main characteristics are dryness and heat. The formation of hot and dry air masses is related to the lack of water vapor. When the surface of the inland area is subject to strong solar radiation, a large amount of evaporation will occur, causing the water vapor content of the air near the surface to decrease, the relative humidity to drop, and a dry air mass to form. The existence of hot and dry air masses will intensify the evaporation of water and inhibit the formation of clouds and rain, resulting in dry weather and less rain, forming a positive feedback process.
The emergence of hot and dry air masses will have a series of impacts on the northern region of my country - hot and dry air masses are characterized by dryness and heat, which will significantly increase the temperature in the northern region, even reaching over 30 degrees.
For example, supercomputer simulations show that on May 3, the temperature in many places in the eastern-southeast and northeastern plains of Inner Mongolia will rise sharply, and the temperature in some areas will even exceed 30 degrees. For these places, this may be the highest temperature this year.
Taken together, as the direct sun point is moving northward, dry and hot air masses are beginning to form and become stronger in the inland areas, which will bring a wider warming process to the northern region.According to current forecasts, hot and dry air masses will attack eastward during the May Day holiday, and the impact will cover North China, Huanghuai, Northeast and other places. The temperature in some areas will exceed 30 degrees. This change will also need to be made during the May Day holiday. Take good precautions and response measures. Sun protection and heatstroke prevention may be required in some areas.
