Today is the birthday of Wang Jinping, the former head of Taiwan’s legislative body. Ke Zhien, the non-district representative of the Kuomintang, posted on Facebook in the morning a photo of him and Wang Jinping having breakfast and cutting a cake at his hometown in Luzhu, Kaohsiung. He also posted a message wishing Wang Jinping good health and a happy birthday.
Wang Jinping was born in 1941 and is now 83 years old. Ke Zhien said that Wang Jinping was physically strong, talked and laughed happily, and paid attention to current affairs and local affairs. He was an elder she often consulted for advice and a "fair uncle" respected by everyone.
Wang Jinping was born in Luzhu, Kaohsiung. He first entered Taiwan's legislative body in 1975. Since then, he has participated in 13 consecutive public opinion representative elections (including non-regional seats), and served as the head of the legislative body for 5 terms during this period. On February 1, 2016, as the Kuomintang lost its seat advantage, Wang Jinping resigned from his position as the person in charge and returned to his status as a representative of the people. After Wang Jinping concluded the last general inquiry on October 25, 2019, he did not seek re-election. On January 31, 2020, Wang Jinping ended his 44-year, nearly half-century career in the Democratic Republic of China.
Wang Jinping occupies a place in the Kuomintang and is the leader of the Kaohsiung White Faction. He has a harmonious personality, has many good relationships, and has influence across parties. He is described as a person with "only friends and no enemies."
After Ke Zhien was nominated by the Kuomintang to run for mayor of Kaohsiung in 2022, he immediately visited Wang Jinping for help. Recently, local media have speculated that Ke Zhien may run for mayor of Kaohsiung again. Ke Zhien said that it is too early to talk about the 2026 election, but it is her responsibility and she will not evade it.
