Wang Wanzhi: There are contradictory parts in her character. First of all, Zhuzhu is a very traditional little woman. She grew up in the kitchen, taking the teachings of her grandmother and mother to heart. Her goal in life from the beginning was to prepare every meal well for her family. But at the same time, Zhuzhu is a big fan of Zhang Ailing. She will read the same Zhang Ailing novel more than 20 times and recite the golden sentences in it. So she must agree with Zhang Ailing's view of love.
I think she has a longing for marriage and longs for romance. She feels that after being in love with her third brother for so many years, it’s time to have a status. But at the same time, she had little confidence in herself. Although he has such a talent for cooking, he has never been able to create a new world for himself. Wang Wanzhi: is more confident.Before filming the second part, we actors and directors spent a lot of time reading. I think Zhuzhu started to develop her career during this time and seriously ran her cooking channel. It may have grown from four fans to 400 fans. Although it is not many, she cherishes it very much. Wang Wanzhi: I think in the ending, she and her third brother became clearer about their relationship. Yangcheng Evening News: Just now you mentioned the scene where Zhuzhu "cheated" the shark fin king Uncle Liu (played by Tse Junhao) with a classic kung fu dish, the crane needle. This is Piggy’s highlight moment in the film. How did you feel about filming this scene?
Wang Wanzhi: That scene was really strong, with dozens of people surrounding us. Piggy is not afraid at all, but I am a little afraid. (Laughs) The lines are very long. I actually don’t understand how to make the crane needle, but I have to recite all the steps. This scene is very important to Zhuzhu, as if she has been cooking for so many years just for this moment. Zhuzhu’s self-confidence makes me risk everything, and I have to believe that I can do it! And my opponent is Brother Hao (Tse Junhao). I respect him, so I feel that I have to do better.
Yangcheng Evening News: You and Xie Junhao also collaborated on the stage play "The Color of the Sky" at the end of last year. The style is completely opposite to "Still Think You Are the Best 2". Can you dance?
Wang Wanzhi: When "Still Think You're the Best 2" came to the end of filming, we started rehearsing "The Color of the Sky". "Color of the Sky" is a play that discusses marriage and is very heavy. Brother Hao was very involved in the rehearsal, but he was actually very naughty, like a big kid. During the break, I sometimes see the shadow of Uncle Liu, and I can only say to him, "Uncle Liu, go back quickly!" Recently, I was promoting "Still Think You're the Best 2" with Brother Hao, and sometimes I thought about "Uncle Liu, please go back quickly!" "The Color of the Sky", I felt a little heavy when I saw Uncle Six. (laughing)
Yangcheng Evening News: What’s interesting is that your movies are basically comedies, but most of your stage plays are dramas.
Wang Wanzhi: mainly looked for my movies, almost all of which were comedies. There were some scripts that I really wanted to act in, but I didn’t receive any invitations. So when I wanted to do a serious play, I had no choice but to do my own stage play. I think comedy is not easy at all and requires a long period of training to do it.Although people around me also say that I seem to be suitable for comedy, this kind of "she seems to be funny" is different from a truly powerful comedy. I also hope that I can continue to learn and make progress.
Yangcheng Evening News: In recent years, you have become closer and closer to an artist in other fields. Needless to say, you do stage plays, you also do your own art exhibitions, concept music, etc. Do you think the two identities of "movie comedian" and "artist" are contradictory?
Wang Wanzhi: Actually, I don’t think these identities are separate. It doesn’t mean that since I’m doing an art exhibition, I can’t be funny. No matter what job I do, I do it wholeheartedly. My current work focuses on three areas: film, stage plays, and music. No matter how busy I am every year, I hope to try and make progress in these three aspects. These three have a positive influence on each other. When filming and speaking lines, I have the rhythm of music, and when I sing, I have pictures in my mind. I enjoy this state very much.
The new goal is to release the first orchestral album
Yangcheng Evening News: I feel that you have become more versatile in the past few years. When doing stage plays, he is also a producer, translator, and star. In terms of music, he also handles lyrics, music, arrangement, singing, and even music video shooting. But correspondingly, you become less productive. Is this a trade-off for you?
Wang Wanzhi: I have fewer musical works, not because I write less, but because I spend a lot more time on one piece of music. I hope to present a work three-dimensionally. Whether it is lyrics, music, arrangement, or video, in my eyes they are actually the same work. I've been trying this for the past few years. Of course, now is the time to rethink: Can I spend that long on each work in the future? I don't have an answer yet.
Yangcheng Evening News: What is the biggest challenge for you in in recent years?
Wang Wanzhi: spent three years learning to write orchestral music. I used to arrange pop music with orchestral music, but I didn’t know how to write orchestral works. Writing orchestral music really takes a lot of time to learn, and you don’t know if anyone will appreciate it once you make it. I feel like I, like Zhu Zhu, took a lot of courage to take the first step and fight for my orchestral dream. I don’t know what the final result will be, but I will keep working hard.
Yangcheng Evening News: You collaborated on a concert with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra last year, which was considered to have achieved preliminary results.
Wang Wanzhi: , yes. The Hong Kong Philharmonic performed my first orchestral work. Many times I forget to praise myself when I finish my work. I think I should praise myself more so that I can have more confidence to go on. This is a small step towards realizing my dream. This year I will release my first orchestral album, and I hope that one day, different orchestras will be able to perform my works.
