Recently, talk show actor Yang Bo posted an article saying that drinking cephalosporin will not kill you. This is extremely misleading. I want to make it clear to everyone here.
Disulfiram itself is a drug that prevents people from drinking through an aversion reaction (alcohol withdrawal drug). After taking this drug, you will feel uncomfortable as long as you touch alcohol, such as blushing, dizziness, heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, and excessive drinking after taking the drug. Can cause death.
Some cephalosporins, metronidazole and other drugs cause similar reactions because they contain the same structure, which is called a disulfiram-like reaction and can cause death.
For example, a paper from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital showed that the mortality rate of disulfiram reactions caused by cephalosporins diagnosed in the emergency department from January 2006 to December 2011 was 6.4%.
So don’t be misled by the content of this circle of friends. Generally, after taking drugs such as cephalosporins or disulfiram, reactions may occur within 1-2 weeks. Moreover, this kind of reaction may occur within a few minutes after drinking alcohol, which still tests the speed of treatment.
