Recently, director Haodong Suga came to Chengdu for a roadshow to share the behind-the-scenes stories of the film's shooting with the audience. Well-known filmmakers Wang Hongwei and Kong Dashan also appeared as guests.

Looking back on the past, Haodong Suga once wrote: When I graduated (university), I made a decision to work in a coal mine for a year. One is to save money, the other is as a transition, and the third is to use spare time to complete the script to be filmed.
After working in the coal mine for 15 months, in early 2015, Jian Haodong left the coal mine with the 50,000 yuan he had saved and returned to his hometown of Hequ County, Shanxi Province to prepare for the independent film "Light Blindness". In March of that year, filming began. In June, he took the film to Beijing for post-production, and began his life as a drifter in Beijing.
In 2020, Haodong Suga began to write the script of "Night Is Coming". The first draft took only half a month. "My grandfather passed away at that time, and I had just celebrated my 30th birthday. Catching up with the epidemic, the film and television industry entered a trough. , I first moved to Yanjiao, and then returned to my hometown. I was getting farther and farther away from Beijing. I was also going through a very difficult moment in my life. I felt that my career and marriage were stagnant. At the age of thirty, I seemed to have nothing... …"
After the script of "Night is Coming" was completed, Haodong Suga obtained the first funding for the filming of the film with the help of his seniors. In addition to the male and female protagonists, most of the actors in the film are non-professional actors. The director's father, sister, grandfather, etc. all played roles in the film. With everyone's help, the film was shot in only 20 days.
During the creation of the film, funds were always a problem faced by Haodong Suga. In order to save money, the director began to edit the film in the basement, and he did the post-production intermittently for a whole year. During the post-production process, Haodong Suga received great help from classmates he had not seen for eleven years, netizens he had never met, and the producer, and finally completed the production of the film.
"Night is Coming" tells the story of Liang Zhe, a 30-year-old young man from Beipiao, who went back to his hometown for a funeral: the day before the Spring Festival, Liang Zhe met his elders, friends and first love whom he had not seen for many years, changes in his hometown, and the changes in his marriage and career. Choice, the secrets of life are revealed one by one here. In fact, this is why director Suga Koudong incorporated his own experience into the movie. On the day the
movie was released, Haodong Suga wrote a long article on Douban. He said that the movie is very simple, a journey and a four-way journey. "Every journey Liang Zhe takes is my way home - but Liang Zhe is not exactly me, he may be more difficult than me, and he may be stronger than me." Suga Haodong said that no matter where "Night Is Coming" goes, he will not stop moving forward. When talking about his new film plans, Suga said that he will make a science fiction film next, which is still related to his experience of working in a coal mine.
