1905 Movie Network News Recently, the documentary film "Fireworks of the World" was screened and exchanged at the China Film Archive. Film director Yin Hong, producer Lei Jianjun, director Sun Hong, producer Wang Jing and other main creatives appeared on the scene to share their creative stories.
The vertical screen movie "Fireworks World" consists of 887 short video clips. These images are produced by 509 amateurs. Among them are construction workers, truck drivers, delivery people, textile workers and other ordinary workers. They use their own lenses to record It creates vivid images of life, simplicity and novelty, joy and tears, which together constitute a true portrayal of thousands of contemporary Chinese people.
In the sense of a traditional movie, "Fireworks World" cannot be called a movie. The large horizontal screen is filled with several vertical screens placed in parallel, and short video content under the same theme and in different time and space is played at the same time. The film is divided into five chapters: clothing, food, housing, transportation, and home. From the material needs of food, clothing, housing, and transportation to the spiritual and emotional destination of home, the director hopes that the audience can find a common connection.
Huge waves engulfed fishing boats, typhoons attacked tower cranes, and wind and snow eroded the plateau; construction workers showed off a gymnastics horizontal bar while busy; the master workers bathing in the mud laughed and shouted, Come on, be happy; a tower crane girl in her early 20s sang Singing; the farmer brother shouted domineeringly to the rice fields during the harvest. This is the story of the 509 amateurs I conquered. It is fresh and touching, very short and very long. As a crowd-created film, more than 500 short video authors are the co-directors of "Fireworks World".
Vice Chairman of the Chinese Film Association, Film Director, Professor Yin Hong of Tsinghua University, the beauty lies in vividly summarizing the characteristics of "Fireworks of the World": it not only records the labor process of Chinese people, ordinary Chinese people, and the most basic working people in China , the key is that it reflects the attitude of these workers towards life, but traditional documentaries cannot reach the state of their lifestyles that they use their own lenses to film. Therefore, the creative team is willing to overcome various difficulties to convey this "freshness". I believe that freshness is the core and touching point of this work.
Most of the audience for this event came from the Young Filmmaker Training Program of the Beijing Youth Service Center. Producer Wang Jing said at the scene: I am very much looking forward to the children's experience of watching the movie, because children are our very important audience. We hope that by watching "Fireworks World" you can know where the clothes on your body come from and what you eat. Where did the bananas come from, how did the house you live in turn from a brick to a house, and what workers are behind our food, clothing, housing and transportation, and their efforts support our current material life.
Director Sun Hong spoke passionately about the energy conveyed by the film: You will find that such a huge portrait from Chinese workers can bring us a truly shocking power. It is no longer what we see in our small children. The world seen on the screen, even these small screens, are worthy of being seen in a big way.
The innocent and sincere viewing experience of the primary school students also brought great encouragement to the main creator. A child was affected by the living conditions of the characters in the movie: I found that the characters in this movie may not have a very wealthy family, and their work is very hard and tiring. But they are still very positive and optimistic about doing things that make themselves and those around them happy.
Another child gained more empathy for workers because he saw things on the big screen for the first time that he would never pay attention to or would never want to pay attention to: construction workers in the process of labor They will also make snowmen on the ground when it snows. I think they are very cute and have eyes that discover beauty. What I was inspired by was that during the summer vacation, I originally wanted to sleep in, but the construction workers next to me were very noisy. I usually feel that they disturb me when I sleep, and I might be angry. Now that I feel how difficult it really is for them, maybe I can feel more understanding when I look at them again.
This coincides with the creative purpose introduced by the film producer and Professor Lei Jianjun of Tsinghua University: We hope that labor can be seen, and we also hope that workers can see it. When everyone walks on the road, you may not necessarily despise them, but most people may ignore them. If you see such a big-screen movie, they will stand in front of you like a god or a giant picture, etc. When you see them again, I hope you can look up to them and respect their labor.
Yin Hong has high hopes for the future of these young audiences: Although this movie has a fast pace, a large amount of information, and a short duration, it will give children less time to recollect, but I believe that the children have watched this movie. In the future, our understanding of labor and people will be different. I hope that children will fall in love with movies and documentaries in the future because of this, and may become the best audience for documentaries in the future.
The first time I saw "Fireworks World", I noticed its "contemporary nature". The film itself is very contemporary and experimental, and it represents a new method of expression and way of life. At the 4th Pingyao Film Festival in 2020, director Jia Zhangke affirmed the experimental nature of this film.
"Fireworks in the World" uses all living beings in their original ecology to form a rare visual memorandum. They are little people who are often ignored by the big screen. They are the majority in number but the minority in attention. These extremely simple but vital faces are more concrete, vivid and touching images that are rare on the big screen. They present more possibilities of life and allow us to see the various aspects of Chinese people’s lives and thus re-examine ourselves. Life has more power to start over.
