As we all know, after the Houthi armed forces intercepted Israeli merchant ships in the Red Sea, the United States formed a "multinational coalition" to patrol the Red Sea and carried out large-scale air strikes against the Houthi armed forces. However, it did not allow the merchant ships to safely pass through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and Red Sea waters.
But a dramatic scene has emerged. According to Bloomberg, some merchant ships have marked two key elements on the public ship information: "Has nothing to do with Israel" and "All on board are Chinese crew members" and other similar remarks. In this way, at least there are Five merchant ships safely passed through the Red Sea.
In other words, after the Houthi armed forces saw the public information, they did not embarrass the above-mentioned merchant ship. In fact, the Houthi armed forces have stated from the beginning that they are targeting Israeli merchant ships and ships assisting Israel. However, most merchant ships have detoured from the Red Sea due to security reasons.
On January 7, 2024, the Houthi armed forces put forward a proposal to avoid the "militarization of the Red Sea." It stated that as long as ships passing through the Red Sea declare "no relationship with Israel", they will not be attacked. Obviously, in order to reduce pressure from the international community, the Houthis are already trying to accurately identify Israeli merchant ships and allow other merchant ships to pass.
However, with the United States and the United Kingdom carrying out unprecedented air strikes against the Houthi armed forces, the passage crisis in the Red Sea may continue for some time. China has repeatedly called on relevant parties to maintain calm and restraint to avoid further expansion of the conflict. It is hoped that all relevant parties can play a constructive and responsible role in maintaining security and stability in the Red Sea region.
These merchant ship labels actually reflect an issue, that is, the Houthi armed forces’ attacks on merchant ships are aimed at Israel and are an extension of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. China’s attitude on these issues is consistent and resolute. China has been working hard to promote a peaceful solution, so the international community, including the Houthis, has also seen China's consistent attitude.
At present, the United States and its allies are carrying out continuous military bombing in the Red Sea region, which is bound to cause a new round of conflict escalation. On the 13th, the Houthi armed forces issued a statement condemning the US and British bombings, and stated that the US and British air strikes against many places in Yemen are "blatant aggression," but they were unable to prevent the Houthis from continuing to launch "attacks on targets associated with Israel."
The Houthi armed forces will continue to launch attacks on "Israeli ships or ships heading to Israel", and the United States and the United Kingdom will also face counterattacks by the Houthi armed forces.
In other words, the unilateral actions of the United States and the United Kingdom not only violated United Nations resolutions, but also further triggered conflicts in the Red Sea region. The interception of merchant ships by the Houthi armed forces may subsequently extend to the fleets of the United States, Britain and other alliance countries.
This is actually not conducive to solving the problem. After being bombed by the United States and Britain for 73 rounds, the Houthi armed forces stated that there were only 6 casualties. They also stated that they were conducting military exercises in northwest Yemen and that they were ready to fight the United States, Britain and Israel. . As the regional situation further escalates, as the interests of Middle Eastern countries are threatened, a larger-scale war may begin.
In fact, the merchant ship’s annotation fully illustrates a problem: hegemonism has become unpopular, the new international order of peaceful coexistence has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, and the peaceful diplomatic strategy that China has always adhered to has been recognized by the international community, including civilian armed forces.
