This year’s Asian Film Awards covers 35 films of different types from 24 countries or regions, and will compete for 16 film awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best New Director, Best New Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Music, Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects and best sound. Many familiar figures appeared on the shortlist of this year's Asian Film Awards. For example, Gu Xiaogang, who directed "The World of Grass and Trees", was shortlisted for Best Director, and Shen Teng, the star of "River Red", was nominated for Best Actor.
