Sichuan is rich in species diversity and is a plateau species origin and evolution center with global protection value. There are more than 1,400 species of wild vertebrates, accounting for more than 45% of the national total, ranking second in the country; there are 14,470 species of higher plants, accounting for More than 1/3 of the national total. This is not only the resource and advantage of biodiversity conservation, but also the pressure and challenge of biodiversity conservation.
On July 24, the Sichuan Provincial Government Information Office held a series of press conferences on the theme of "Beautiful Sichuan", with the theme of "Protecting Biodiversity and Building Beautiful Sichuan". At the meeting, Wang Jinghong, deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau, and Fu Yiqiang, a professor at the School of Life Sciences of Sichuan Normal University, introduced the measures and achievements of Sichuan Province to promote biodiversity protection.
Ferns and other species reappeared in Sichuan
Actively formulated and revised a series of local laws and regulations related to biodiversity protection For extremely small populations such as leaf fern, cypress, and Emei pseudomonosexual magnolia, improve in-situ protection measures, implement rescue protection and field rescue, and strengthen habitat monitoring and patrol. The giant panda has been downgraded from endangered to vulnerable, and species that were once considered extinct or about to become extinct at home and abroad, such as Shuhuashuibazhi, Fengdu plantain, and light-leaved fern, have been rediscovered in Sichuan.
Ex situ conservation has been effective. Continue to carry out breeding research and reintroduction of artificial captive populations such as giant pandas and forest musk deer, and continue to promote the return of extremely small populations of plants such as Thuja thuja and Phytophthora spp. Remarkable results have been achieved in ex situ conservation of species. At the same time, Sichuan Province continues to promote the construction of forest germplasm resource preservation banks, and strengthens the preservation of local high-quality native germplasm resources such as Shuiqinggang, Jatropha japonica, and bamboo. At present, 20 national and provincial forest germplasm resource banks have been established.
"In terms of legal protection, Sichuan Province actively formulates and revises a series of local regulations related to biodiversity protection, continues to carry out the "Green Shield" special action to strengthen the supervision of nature reserves, and solidly carries out the "Qingfeng Action" to crack down on wildlife crimes ' and so on, and make every effort to maintain the safety of wild animals and plants, microorganisms and their habitats." Wang Jinghong said at the meeting that Sichuan has also organized a general survey and risk assessment of invasive alien species, formulated emergency plans for sudden pests, and continued to promote the eradication of pests. Take action to resolutely curb the spread of pine xylophilus and other alien pests.
From 1,000 to 2,053-2,224
Sichuan mountain partridge population more than doubled compared to 2003
"According to the latest survey and evaluation results, the current Sichuan mountain partridge population is about 2,053-2,224. Compared with the national wild Compared with the results of the first survey of animals (about 1,000), the population of Sichuan mountain partridge has more than doubled." Fu Yiqiang, a professor at the School of Life Sciences of Sichuan Normal University, introduced at the meeting.
In fact, the Sichuan mountain partridge is listed as a globally endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature due to its small population and narrow distribution area. According to the results of the first national terrestrial wildlife survey released in 2003, the total number of Sichuan mountain partridges is only about 1,000.
In 1998 and 1999, Sichuan Province took the lead in implementing the "Natural Forest Protection Project" and "Converting Farmland to Forest Project" in China, and the remaining habitats of Sichuan mountain partridges began to be strictly protected. Since then, a number of new nature reserves have been established in areas where the Sichuan mountain partridges are concentrated, and a protection network for the Sichuan mountain partridge habitats has been systematically constructed.
In addition, the domestic joint research group composed of Sichuan Normal University, Sichuan University and other units took the lead in completing the whole genome sequencing of the Sichuan mountain partridge and several closely related species, and at the same time established a targeted monitoring method for the Sichuan mountain partridge population and A fully automatic monitoring system for breeding activities; and for artificial forest reconstruction and corridor construction, the Sichuan mountain partridge habitat restoration technology has been established.
"Currently, the total area of suitable habitat for the Sichuan mountain partridge population has reached 6,018.3 km², an increase of 1,039.5 km², or 20.88%." Fu Yiqiang said that the currently confirmed Sichuan mountain partridge's actual distribution includes 14 counties (districts) , an increase of 5 new distribution places compared with the beginning of this century. The goal of "double growth" in both the total population of Sichuan mountain partridge and the total habitat area has been achieved, and the population decline trend of Sichuan mountain partridge has been fundamentally reversed.
