[The storm in Hong Kong has not subsided yet. In the past two months or so, we have seen violence, chaos and unreasonableness. At the same time, we have also seen many spontaneous actions by Hong Kong citizens who love Hong Kong and their country. How to understand this movement? Is it coming to an end? What should Hong Kong expect after subsiding?
In this regard, Observer.com invited researcher He Jianhua from the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences to talk with Mr. Liu Yicheng, a senior tourism industry veteran who has lived in Hong Kong for more than 30 years, to analyze close observations of sports and discuss Hong Kong's past and future. ]
(Articles/Observer Network columnists Liu Yicheng, He Jianhua, interview, compilation/Zhu Minjie, Chen Siwei, Chen Yu)
He Jianhua: A series of events in Hong Kong in the past two months, especially the violent clashes of radical protesters , It really makes "the loved ones hurt, the enemies quick." As a Shanghai native who has worked and lived in Hong Kong for more than 30 years, I really want to hear your observation and analysis.
Liu Yicheng: First of all, I want to state my point of view. Based on my 30 years of life experience in Hong Kong, it is absolutely impossible for Hong Kong rioters to make trouble in the streets.
I went to Hong Kong from Shanghai in 1987. At that time, the living standards of the two places were very different, and I was full of longing for the "Pearl of the Orient". I remember when I returned to Shanghai in 1988, I was on Nanjing Road at around nine o'clock in the evening. It was like standing in a farm with no lights. Compared with Hong Kong, it was colorful. This was a big gap. Because I am a tourist and often travel to the mainland of China, I have personally watched China have been developing, especially in the last 20 years. Many people told me that you are very happy and live in the two best cities in China-Shanghai and Hong Kong. Of course, the speed of Shanghai's development need not be mentioned. Perhaps Hong Kong is a little more refined in some respects. This is a fact, and we need not shy away from it.
This Hong Kong’s "Yellow Ribbon" operation (demonstration movement) made me feel that after Hong Kong returned to , we have been emphasizing the "two systems" but not "one country". National education has been blocked, and the pan-democrats have penetrated the education system. The old and new media are all over their forces. Now the "Apple Daily" has the largest circulation. Although also has "Ta Kung Pao" and "Wen Wei Po", but the circulation is ranked 14th and 16th, no one reads the newspaper after it is released. It is a thin copy, which is difficult to promote. . Chairman Mao used to say that public opinion is the most important thing, but now Hong Kong’s public opinion is completely emptied. If they let them talk irresponsibly, they certainly have their own positions. The reason
sparked the demonstration, which had spread for more than two months, was the so-called “returning”, but in fact it has nothing to do with ordinary people in Hong Kong. In the eyes of those of us, in the past, some people broke the law in the Mainland and then fled and hid in Hong Kong. This is unreasonable. Therefore, we all think that extradition between Hong Kong and the Mainland is normal, and that there are dozens of people in China and the world. The country signs extradition regulations.
We all think that the Hong Kong government has done a lot of success in many things, such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It also has the upper hand in the face of some pan-civil forces; but this amendment to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance may be a bit " Underestimate the enemy", we feel a pity. The Hong Kong government has done a lot of work, but there are still so many opposing voices. Why doesn't the government make extensive publicity and explanation on various platforms such as the subway and television so that Hong Kong people can understand the truth? In fact, many people have never read the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance, but they just followed up and said that they would take us back to jail (that is, imprisonment). I asked them, why are you afraid? They said, what should we do if we catch us back in the future? I said, why do you want to catch you? They said that it's hard to tell, and you can catch a crime at random. I asked, are you afraid to go to prison? Someone actually said that I would rather sit in prison in Hong Kong because the prison is air-conditioned. It's such a naive idea. In fact, the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance is a very strict extradition law, which has nothing to do with politics. This is indeed the fact that the Hong Kong government has not widely publicized it.
Hong Kong demonstrators
On the other hand, the number of demonstrations and demonstrations needs to be clarified. First, some demonstrators or Hong Kong media claimed that there were 2 million people in the demonstration, which is bragging. I know the situation very well because I am watching it from the side. Every time the police announce the numbers, there are at most a hundred thousand people. This is the correct number. I went to the scene to participate in the "Police Support" activity. We all belonged to the "Blue Ribbon". At that time, Tamar Park was full of people. In the end, there were more than 30,000 people. This number seems to be overwhelmed at the scene, so the participation of millions of people in the parade is absolutely exaggerated.
Second, it is actually a public preference to march in Hong Kong. My friend has participated in and presided over the Association for the Protection of Animals. They will organize parades to promote the protection of small animals. She often receives calls asking "When will you be active next week, we will participate" and so on. To put it more plainly, Hong Kong people go to parade on Saturdays and Sundays except for looking at buildings. They think that they are walking and shopping, and chanting slogans behind them. In the past, children were also allowed to participate in activities such as education on caring for small animals. So it's all hoopla that millions of Hong Kong people have come forward to oppose the government. Think about it, everyone. In fact, 100,000 people are already terrible, just such a road.
Observer Network: Indeed, when the parade first started, the Hong Kong media would report the data released by the police, which seemed to be at most 100,000. But then there were frequent violent incidents during demonstrations, and the focus of attention from the outside world shifted.
Liu Yicheng: The police has a data called the highest peak statistics, how many square meters and population density are easy to figure out. This place is full of people, and the highest peak is hundreds of thousands.
He Jianhua: There is no particularly large square in the city center of Hong Kong, and the parade is on the road.
Liu Yicheng: To a large extent, these rumors of are assisted by various media behind the scenes, very naked; when the police hit the police, no one reported it, but the police responded and reported it. We have also kept asking, is it possible that the police would beat people for no reason? Why didn't they beat me or him, they wanted to beat you? You go to hit the police, and of course he will hit back. I have been to Brazil and the United States. I have witnessed how the local police treat the parade. If the demonstrators target the police, the police will beat them to death. The Hong Kong police are really civilized. When you beat him, he is only defending. Therefore, ordinary people support the Hong Kong police and even think that the police are too soft.
Hong Kong citizens initiated a rally to "Guard Hong Kong and Support the Police"
He Jianhua: Just now I mentioned that peaceful marches on the streets are the preference of Hong Kong people. In fact, the composition of Hong Kong society is very complicated; the same is the street, and there are also complex crowds in it. Sex is not necessarily directed at the government. Some scholars believe that some university professors and parents teach their children not to go to the streets, but if children do not listen to discipline and run to the streets, they may follow the streets. This is not to support the children against the government, but to keep them under control. It can't be counted in the parade. Have you observed such a situation?
Liu Yicheng: Of course . In fact, there are so-called "core troops" in the parade. Many people collect money. This is already a household name. Some Filipino workers in my family also told her that she would give her 500 Hong Kong dollars to make up the number, and she said no. The income of Filipino workers in Hong Kong is not high, only four to five thousand yuan a month, 500 yuan is not bad. I told her that she must not go, and we will not be responsible if something happens. Everyone at the beginning of the parade knows that there is a price. what is this? Mercenary? This is a mob!
In addition, there are many children participating in the parade, and their parents are nervous, watching them, hoping that nothing will happen. There are also some people who love to lively, especially when they see it on the road, they follow behind, so these people do not mean that they oppose the government at all. Moreover, everyone now sees clearly that someone is holding an American flag and the equipment is almost at the level of terrorists. This is an organized, arranged, funded, and even attempted movement to overthrow the government. I sometimes feel that these people deliberately want to force the central government to take action. I really don't understand. What does the commander mean? ! You pursue "democracy", but it hinders people's livelihood. The "Occupy Central" campaign launched a few years ago ultimately failed, making the common people miserable. Everyone finds life inconvenient. Who will support you? You have ideals, and everyone listens and sympathizes with you, but when you interfere with the lives of most people, you will have opinions, so you fail. But this time, the demonstrators did not cause all the main roads to be blocked like the "Occupy Central". Instead, they did it here and there. Some people called it "flowering everywhere", and they came out to harass at night.
Take a step back and talk about it. If you really pursue democracy, then find a place to talk about it. How can you run around in residential areas? The commander was also quite bad, and even shouted the slogan "Recover Hong Kong". What is the recovery? How to recover? Where will the recovery go? It's really ridiculous, it's just nonsense. We joked that the operation behind the United States is really low.
He Jianhua: I remember 90 of the last centuryAt the beginning of the decade, I went to Shenzhen to cover the tenth anniversary of the development and construction of the Special Economic Zone. According to current perspectives, Hong Kong was not the richest at that time. The average transit job cost 3,000 to 5,000 Hong Kong dollars, which is of course much higher than that of the mainland.
In fact, the rapid development of Hong Kong was after the reform and opening up, especially after the 1980s and 1990s. Because Hong Kong has played a role as a window and platform for opening to the outside world in China's overall strategic layout. All provinces, municipalities, and municipalities go to Hong Kong to open foreign trade window companies. In fact, almost all of the inland exports are carried out in Hong Kong. You also went to Hong Kong in that era. At that time, Hong Kong took advantage of the time and place, enjoyed the dividends of reform and opening up, and then became rich. Strictly speaking, if there is no reform and opening up, no rapid development of the Mainland, and a huge trade cycle with the world in the economic globalization, Hong Kong will not be able to accumulate so much wealth. Combining your own development in the mainland and Hong Kong, what are your observations on the economic and social evolution of Hong Kong?
Liu Yicheng: When Deng Xiaoping proposed "One Country, Two Systems", China was still very poor, and Hong Kong was called "a goose that lays golden eggs." But now the situation is very different. Shenzhen’s GDP has surpassed that of Hong Kong; China’s GDP growth is now more than 6%, while Hong Kong’s is almost a few tenths. Hong Kong has not developed in recent years. In Shanghai, perhaps three to five months will be a big change, but Hong Kong has not changed much, but Hong Kong people are still self-righteous because they don't understand.
Another very bad thing is that Hong Kong people have a mentality that is too self-esteem. When I first came to Hong Kong from the Mainland, I obviously felt that Hong Kong people looked down on me very much. Sometimes I find it strange, what do you look down on me? When I work as a boss in a company and hire you, I sometimes ask individual employees why they hate the mainland so much, but they do not say anything. I asked again, have you ever been to the mainland? They said that they have never been. I just said, you haven't been there, so you hate it? So some people feel a little ignorant, including those who are marching now, who can't even write Chinese characters.
Observer Network : Mr. Liu, you, as a senior tourism industry operator, have been in trouble in Hong Kong for so long recently, and mainland tourists have also decreased. How much impact does it have on Hong Kong's overall economy?
Liu Yicheng: The current situation of is very destructive to the Hong Kong economy. I work as a travel agency, and my main business is to book rooms for individual travelers, such as business travelers and free travel. The occupancy rate of some hotels has dropped to 30%, and some hotels have begun to take "no pay leave" (no pay leave). If these people continue to be allowed to do it, the consequences will directly affect every household. Now there are no customers in the Hong Kong gold store, it turned out to be crowded.
What I don't know the most is why some people hate mainlanders so much. Mainlanders consume a lot in Hong Kong. I once encountered an incident in Macau. The person in charge of a local hotel told me, "Most of the guests you brought are from the Mainland. Can you help me do more business with foreigners? "I said, "Your hotel costs 2500 per night. I tell you, only Chinese people can afford it. If you find a foreigner, 700 yuan will not be paid to you. You need to figure out what you want. "I don't have any exaggeration. The consumption of mainlanders in Macau is more than 2,000 yuan, which is really nothing. Many mainlanders live in luxury hotels in Hong Kong.
He Jianhua: Hong Kong’s current problems are mainly economic development and people’s livelihood.
Liu Yicheng: housing is indeed a big problem. For example, Tung Chee-hwa and Carrie Lam want to improve people's livelihood, but the housing problem may really violate the roots of the four major chaebols in Hong Kong.
After the return of Hong Kong, a large number of British capital left, and the chaebols filled this gap. In fact, after the reunification, these big families have benefited most. Now the rent is so expensive, including a large number of free-travel tourists. In the past, the central government also supported everyone to travel to Hong Kong. Any tourist would spend 10,000 Hong Kong dollars, but the money went to brand-name shops, gold shops, and eventually all of them. In the pocket of the real estate owner. How much benefit the people really benefit is unknown. Everyone just wants to find a job. Young people in Hong Kong feel that they have no future, and I understand it because the gap between the rich and the poor is too wide.
Observer Network: At the beginning of this year, before the so-called "reverse transmission", there were also some demonstrations in Hong Kong. At that time, they were mainly aimed at the Hong Kong Government’s "Lantau Tomorrow" project, but this was actually a housing and people’s livelihood. The question, why are so many Hong Kong citizens coming outprotest?
Liu Yicheng: I think there may be chaebol support behind . Frankly speaking, real estate has kidnapped the entire Hong Kong. As a conscientious Hong Kong government, as the parents of Hong Kong citizens, they will find ways to solve the housing problem.
thought that Tung Chee-hwa proposed the "85 thousand five" plan, but finally set off a wave of opposition; including Carrie Lam's "Lantau Tomorrow". I have a good impression of Carrie Lam. She really wants to do something for Hong Kong. Lam Cheng is also a bit emotional about the amendment to the extradition regulations this time. She said that she is also the child's parent. Seeing such a tragedy, she feels sad. For this term, the Hong Kong Government really wants to do practical things, especially real estate. Real estate is a sticking point. If this problem is not solved, the Hong Kong problem will be very difficult. As for the government, it is to increase housing supply and open land. It is said that it can solve 250,000 people, but this plan is now stopped. So what is behind it is very complicated.
He Jianhua: I have been in contact with Lam Cheng himself. She grew up in the grassroots and is a very mature civil servant. She has no negative news, does not seek personal gain, and is full of affection for Hong Kong. She is relatively gentle and moderate. The evaluation is still very high. On the other hand, some scholars now believe that the kidnapping of Hong Kong by financial real estate is a sample of the vicious degree of the capitalist system.
Liu Yicheng: I think there is nothing wrong with .
He Jianhua: It has been 22 years since Hong Kong returned to China. We talk about "one country, two systems". Do we have to reflect on the malpractices of this vicious capitalist system and take some measures to resolve them?
Liu Yicheng: I live in two systems, one is socialism and the other is capitalism. We have been talking about "result-oriented" now, and there may be some deviations, but it is true that in the past 20 years, the mainland has developed rapidly, and Hong Kong has not developed much. The lives of young people are very difficult, and the "subdivided houses" we see they live in are all real. The income is only a little, and the burden of such a small room is five thousand, six thousand or even seven thousand. How do they live?
He Jianhua: Based on your observations, what methods are there to resolve the chaos and violence of young people on the streets of Hong Kong?
Liu Yicheng: I heard too many calls, and they were all asking why the central government didn’t take action. Including many locals in Hong Kong. Many of my Hong Kong friends who are born and raised in Hong Kong feel very uncomfortable and angry. "They have made such a good Hong Kong like this", all of them are from the heart. Many employees in Hong Kong have told me honestly why they have not come to deal with violent elements. They are like terrorists. Of course, I have seen many articles saying that the central government does not want to take action, and the Hong Kong police can still control the situation.
I think that the chaos in Hong Kong cannot continue. How can you succeed in doing it right with all the Chinese people? A country is a country. You have to recognize that you are a Chinese. It's as simple as that; shouting "recover" and "independence", everyone is asking what "independence" is. Hong Kong has been Chinese territory since ancient times.
I heard that many people spontaneously surrounded Li Zhiying's house a few days ago, calling him a traitor. This reminds me of a short film about "Occupy Central". At that time, Emily Liu, the caller of "Occupy Central" and the chairman of the Democratic Party, came out of the bathroom. A girl went up to block him. Emily Liu asked "Why did you stop me" and the girl said "You Isn’t it “Occupy Central”? I won’t let you go now.” Emily Liu was relatively old and arrogant in the democrats, but she was speechless at the time.
Another example is Huang Zhifeng. During the "Occupy Central", some citizens lined up at his house and did nothing. Huang Zhifeng shouted "Don't mess with my family". Someone asked him, you can engage others but not allow others to engage you. ,What is the logic? Therefore, I think they will definitely fail because they will not get popular support.
There are two factions in Hong Kong, one is called the "Yellow Silk", which mainly refers to the group of "Occupy Central", and the other is the "Blue Silk". The "Blue Silk" is generally a certain age, in their 30s. Above, there is a certain social level and well-educated.
Once, when I took a taxi and chatted with the driver, the old man was probably in his 60s or 70s. I said, are you still driving at such an age? He said, "Is there any way, I don’t want to stay at home. My grandchildren ran outside to march. I told them that Hong Kong was not built by you. Hong Kong was built by us. We built Hong Kong until today.Like this, you are going to sabotage, have you paid taxes? You still eat and use ours to this day. Why do you say that Hong Kong is not good? What qualifications do you have to criticize? What does it have to do with you? "A normal taxi driver can talk about this from the bottom of his heart. It's really touching.
He Jianhua: is right! Hong Kong society has a contradiction between the middle-aged and the middle-aged. I am June 30. August, July 1 also happened to be in Hong Kong. The taxi driver was also an old man in his 70s. Most of the people who went to the restaurant for breakfast and mopped the floor to wash the dishes were in their 60s and 70s. I said, why don’t you guys Retire? They said that we love Hong Kong and are used to working. I said, why don’t young people come to work? They said that young people have no habit of working and don’t love to work. This is a tragedy in Hong Kong. So, you are Having lived in Hong Kong for so many years, what kind of values do you think should be promoted to young people in Hong Kong, and what should be said to them?
Liu Yicheng: Alas, the entire environment of Hong Kong needs to be greatly changed, and real action is really necessary. The education sector is fully controlled In the hands of Panmin, national education has also been denied. One parent said that when his children were in elementary school, the teacher told them that the police were black police, and they had to hate the police and inculcate this kind of thinking from childhood; I’m very respectful and think that what the teacher said is right. Many parents are very anxious about how teachers can educate their children in this way. But this aspect is really difficult. I think we still have to let these children go to the mainland to see more. We should communicate with them more and change their minds. Many Hong Kong parents have a terrible headache at
. Recently, I saw several parents talking in a group. If the children come back from the parade, they will not open the door. I Tell my wife, this is not so good, my wife said, what’s wrong with it, she is very angry about these things. In addition, some bosses say that if their employees go to make trouble, they will be fired.
I have walked in I have observed in the parade, some people are very young; a girl, only fifteen or sixteen years old, holding her boyfriend’s hand, the boy is only sixteen or seventeen years old, both of them are wearing black clothes. To start, in our opinion, this seems to be young people coming out for dating. Some people are rushing in front with equipment, and some younger children find it cool and even admire.
Compared with Taiwan, now a large number of Taiwanese young people are working and studying in the mainland. It may be close to one million. Many people think that coming to the mainland is very good, there are many opportunities, etc., and they will promote it when they go back. Word of mouth after personal experience is more important than anything. Politicians like Ke Wenzhe have even used slogans. I want to care about these Taiwanese in mainland China. I’m thinking, why don’t we fight for the younger generation in Hong Kong? We still talk too little.
Now many Hong Kong people tell me that families are divided, a bit like back then Like the "Cultural Revolution"; I have personally experienced this period, and I told them that some behaviors now resemble "revolutionary innocence and rational rebellion." There must be political power behind these people; what they hope is the final redistribution of power and wealth. Redistribution. But now this is impossible. If you want to overthrow the Hong Kong government and "independence", don't even think about it, no one will agree.
is like My wife, she was originally a person who didn't care about politics, and she was even more angry than me this time. I asked her, why do you rebound better than me; she said, why do you swallow? I said, because they have no results in their beating, smashing and burning, it is a dead end. I have full confidence in the future of Hong Kong.
He Jianhua: Indeed, this kind of sabotage does no good to Hong Kong, and young people will eventually bear these costs. Now Carrie Lam has also called for Hong Kong not to be led in a dangerous direction. A society, especially the conscientious elders, cannot instigate and use young people. A rational society should guide young people. Inciting the use of young people to destroy society at will is the worst. Once the destructive power is instigated, young people will become irrational and easily radicalized. If social managers are forced to make a big punch in the end, young people will pay the price, but the real instigators are those old and cunning behind-the-scenes and selective public opinions with ulterior motives.
Observer Network: However, it seems that the situation is still a bit difficult to calm down. Will the Hong Kong government take any measures to control the situation?
Liu Yicheng: Not long ago, the Hong Kong government recruited an experienced and retired deputy commissioner of the police, Liu Yecheng, and the Hong Kong police sent undercover agents into the team and arrested many violent elements. But "yellow media" (yellow ribbon mediaThey attacked the police right from the start. The current situation of the Hong Kong media is indeed worrying. They fell to the ground to help and incite the demonstrators. I think it is unnecessary for the police to explain to them.
He Jianhua: Now there is another observation that the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party is fanning the flames and seeking self-interest. Western forces intervene and some Hong Kong people have close contacts with them. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would cut off the black hands behind the scenes. Sometimes I wonder what kind of mentality Hong Kong people have.
Liu Yicheng: "Man in Black" and "Yellow Silk" are not willing to listen to this. In fact, there are a lot of reports on YouTube. Many reporters photographed how the protesters beat the police. Many people with conscience also pointed out in the video that the students were wrong and blindly pursued American democracy, but American democracy is not the case at all. American police This is definitely not the case. In fact, the Hong Kong police are too tolerant.
"Hong Kong independence" element Huang Zhifeng and others met with Americans
He Jianhua: Some scholars believe that Hong Kong’s colonial era has a deep trace and a better civilization and order. Hong Kong people are more law-abiding, more pragmatic and less courageous. There is not much resistance in the concept. But now the performance of young people in Hong Kong and a handful of rioters has changed our view of Hong Kong people. What do you think of this?
Liu Yicheng: is also understandable. In fact, except for the aborigines, most of Hong Kong came from the mainland. Before the reform and opening up, they had experienced many historical changes. At the beginning of the liberation, hundreds of thousands of Shanghainese passed by. Now the first in Hong Kong is from Cantonese, the second is from Fujian, and the third is from Shanghai. I remember it was said in the textbook that at the beginning of the liberation, there were 200,000 people in Shanghai, including capitalists, who moved to Hong Kong with machinery, workers, equipment, and materials. This laid the foundation for Hong Kong’s textile industry and enabled Hong Kong’s economy to take off. a little.
Second, there were many people in the previous campaigns. They had a "communist fear" mentality. I have also had contact with these people. Some old men said that they came to Hong Kong in the 1960s and never went back, so there are still some "well frogs watching the sky." I often tell them that I have also experienced these years, but now it is completely different, and what I see is believing. These people's "communist fear" psychology will also have an impact on the next generation, coupled with the education of school teachers, describe China as an undemocratic situation. But there is no way to deny that China is now so rich and powerful. I agree with Foreign Minister Wang Yi's words to reporters at the press conference. Do you know China? How is our China now? Come and see.
Therefore, we must be more open and let these young people in, otherwise they will never understand how much the mainland of China has changed.
Observer Network: mentioned the situation of Hong Kong people and Taiwanese. One thing is more interesting. In fact, from the perspective of "one country", Taiwanese and Hong Kong people have different positions. But now there are more young people from Taiwan coming to the mainland, while young people from Hong Kong are reluctant to go to the mainland. For example, the state has vigorously promoted the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Young people in Hong Kong, such as Huo Qigang, also urged Hong Kong young people to "go north" and venture into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. However, Hong Kong young people do not seem to accept this.
Liu Yicheng: Hong Kong people always feel that mainlanders are still poor now, and they have never understood the mainland. If they understand, they won't say this. In fact, there are relatively more interactions between Taiwan and the mainland. If there are 200,000 Taiwanese in Shanghai, there are certainly not 200,000 Hong Kongers. They don't understand, and they have a declining mentality. In the past, Hong Kong people had a sense of superiority and felt that they were different from the mainland, but now no one treats you the same. The labor cost of our Hong Kong company is lower than that of the Shanghai company. Pride and poverty may grow in direct proportion, and they are unwilling to accept that the mainland gradually surpasses Hong Kong.
Observer Network: What is the general education level of young people in Hong Kong in their 20s and 30s? What is the level of employment income?
Liu Yicheng: education level is generally not very high. In the Mainland, there are an incredible number of college students, but the proportion of young people in Hong Kong is not very high. Generally, they are in Form 5, Form 6, and Form 7. Form 7 is already very impressive. Form 5 and Form 6 are high school graduation degrees. , Most of them are so.
Observer Network: The work and income level of may be relatively low, right?
Liu Yicheng: Yes, the average girl in Hong Kong works in an office building, but how much salary can an office building get? not much. In recent years, some adjustments have been made. After entry, the average employee with no experience is about 12,000 Hong Kong dollars, and the average manager's income is about 30,000. Compared with Hong Kong's commodity prices and property prices, this wage level is very low. It costs 7,000 to rent a subdivided house. How can it be used for more than 10,000 yuan? How can I still have the money to buy a property, date it, or get married? Now there are fewer children in Hong Kong, most of them one or two. Unlike before, after all, they can’t afford it. Life pressure is too great and Hong Kong prices are too high.
He Jianhua: These are our observations and reflections on Hong Kong society. How can we change this situation? Now some people seem to be trying to overthrow and start over.
Liu Yicheng: was overthrown and started again is what they imagined. I saw some young people in Hong Kong who said in interviews that they have nothing and nothing, and I hope that Hong Kong would collapse completely. The economic downturn you mentioned has nothing to do with me. This young man is only 17 or 18 years old. What they think is that there is nothing, Hong Kong will be rebuilt. At that time, I thought to myself, who will help you build? Does it depend on you? Where does the money come from? To put it bluntly, what they want is property redistribution.
He Jianhua: but now it is kidnapped by real estate finance capital.
Observer Network: thinks from the perspective of wealth redistribution. Is there any way for the Hong Kong government to improve people's livelihood, develop the economy, and ease the anxiety of young people?
Liu Yicheng: The Hong Kong government has a lot to do. The first is to solve the housing problem of young people. The Hong Kong government is also working hard. The newly built houses are mainly small and medium-sized apartments, which are all considered for the younger generation. Although the house is small, maybe 20 to 30 square meters, it has everything inside, so that young couples can at least have a place to live and work in peace. Hong Kong has also built a lot of public housing to help young people solve their housing problems.
He Jianhua: wants to develop the economy, including integration into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which is also an important way to improve people's livelihood.
Liu Yicheng: Yes, it is very good for more young Hong Kong people to work in the Greater Bay Area.
Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge
Observer Network: has also recently argued that Hong Kong wants to become a city of technological innovation, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is also geared towards technological innovation. However, some young people in Hong Kong are limited by their educational level or professional learning. Can't match the requirements of science and technology, so how do you think about this problem?
Liu Yicheng: It is definitely a fact that Hong Kong is being kidnapped by real estate developers. Whether it is business or housing, the biggest expenditure must be real estate rent. Guiding Hong Kong young people to work in the Mainland is a solution. Now only relying on Hong Kong’s local economic power and changing whoever becomes the capital cannot solve the problem of wages and land and housing for young people. Who dares to change the real estate prices in Hong Kong? When you move, many property owners and real estate developers will be dissatisfied. I think the central government will not take Hong Kong lightly, and it has taken these factors into consideration. Hong Kong people are sometimes very selfish. They drink Dongjiang water. One-third of the electricity is supplied by the Mainland. The vegetables and agricultural products they eat are also from the Mainland. Can Hong Kong be able to sustain it without the support of the Mainland?
I don’t know what you guys don’t understand: Shanghai paid 700 billion in taxes to the central government last year, and Hong Kong didn’t need to pay a penny. It’s still like this now. It’s really unreasonable. How to change the situation in Hong Kong is integration. It is one of the necessary ways for Hong Kong to truly integrate into the Greater Bay Area.
He Jianhua: just mentioned the kidnapping of Hong Kong by real estate finance. Are the social incidents in Hong Kong in the past few years related to the so-called "big four families" or real estate developers, including public housing, "Occupy Central", etc. If this argument is true, don't these young people see the obvious "manipulation" behind it?
Liu Yicheng: This point of is worthy of reflection. Our publicity is far from enough, and it has only recently begun to gradually strengthen. Moreover, in the past, we emphasized too much "two systems" for Hong Kong and not "one country".
He Jianhua: The concept of "two systems" refers to the socialist system in the Mainland and the capitalist system in Hong Kong. Emphasizing the "two systems" is equivalent to emphasizing the maintenance of Hong Kong's capitalist system, but it does not consider how to check and balance the shortcomings of the Hong Kong capitalist system. On the contrary, it makes Hong Kong people so vicious to the capitalist system.Take it for granted. Many young people are used by capitalists. In fact, these young people should have targeted those who exploit Hong Kong society. These capitalists will not consider the demands of most Hong Kong citizens.
Li Ka-shing’s two advertisements in Hong Kong media
Liu Yicheng: Indeed, in the previous parade, someone hung up Li Ka-shing and painted him as a vampire with blue faces and fangs.
Observer Network: For a while last year, the media also reported that Li Ka-shing was deploying capital withdrawal from the mainland.
Liu Yicheng: Li Ka-shing’s approach is understandable, because he is doing it for profit.
He Jianhua: Capital and capitalists all over the world are chasing profits for capital, and they will not care about the working people. Capital carries human nature. One of the evils of human nature is greed, which manifests in capital is exploitation. The more you earn, the better. There is no way.
Liu Yicheng: But in any case, my overall judgment is that Hong Kong will develop for the better in the future, because Hong Kong has a strong China behind it, and this China is no longer the same as it used to be. It is no longer as poor as it was decades ago. Now it is strong. It's obvious to all.
includes the system issues mentioned earlier. We also need to reflect on one issue. Many Chinese people, including me, used to think that the capitalist system was good, so they came to Hong Kong. But later, it became more and more aware that many systems in China were not very different from the capitalist system, such as market competition. China is developing faster and faster, and Hong Kong is in sharp contrast. We really have to reflect on which system is better.
Western countries always criticize us with "one-party dictatorship", but if it is not led by "one-party", can China have the speed of development today? Before, we joked about democracy, and saw a tree in Australia for several days. If China uses this system, how long will we have to wait for development? Therefore, the Chinese system has its advantages, and any system must see both sides.
He Jianhua: There was news in the past two days that Hong Kong citizens went to block Li Zhiying's home and called him a "big traitor".
Liu Yicheng: This shows that Hong Kong citizens are very disgusted with such people. Everyone can see that Li Zhiying started calling the police at this time. Didn’t you say that the police were “black police” before, how come they are contacting the police again? People like Ansheng Chen and Martin Lee are also in a mess, and their behavior should be exposed.
Hong Kong citizens protested at the door of Lai Zhiying's house.
He Jianhua: Hong Kong is now so well-developed media. In addition to newspapers, there are also social media such as YouTube and Facebook. What new features have led to the opposition in social mobilization?
Liu Yicheng: The biggest feature of is that it is very appealing and the news spreads very quickly. "Blue Silk" and "Yellow Silk" are all using these media to make their voices, , but I think the "Blue Silk" is completely inadequately organized. They sent messages out of their own inner resentment. They filmed the injustice and posted them online. . But "Yellow Silk" is organized and funded, and their photographic equipment is quite professional. How could this be self-provided? don't know if you have ever seen the Ukrainian "color revolution" movies, the organizers behind the scenes took these movies to young people for training.
He Jianhua: Hong Kong's “color revolution” is really absurd. Hong Kong is originally part of the People's Republic of China. Strictly speaking, it is a province, municipality, and municipality. It is just that the central government implements "one country, two systems and Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong" in order to respect the way of life of Hong Kong people. The "color revolution" logically does not hold.
Liu Yicheng: is not logically clear at all, so some people say that the American forces behind the scenes manipulated badly this time, and the slogans they made were illogical.
He Jianhua: Some US politicians are playing a big game. Whether it is the Sino-US trade war, the Hong Kong issue, or the Taiwan election, their purpose is to intensify China's internal conflicts. But now it seems that the United States cannot and cannot intensify internal contradictions. The Chinese people are conscious. Some Hong Kong people are now being manipulated by capital and controlled by American forces in this changing world. It has no meaning and will not succeed.
Liu Yicheng: Yes, Hong Kong must restore the rule of law and restore social order. I think the current practice of the Hong Kong government is to "lead the snake out of the hole", let the thugs expose themselves, and let the people make their own judgments.. In fact, many people have changed since the incident was reported, and fewer and fewer people participated in the demonstrations. It is necessary for ordinary Hong Kong citizens to understand the recent incidents and defend Hong Kong themselves.
He Jianhua: Some time ago, Carrie Lam also said at the press conference that Hong Kong is our home and our city. Everyone who cherishes Hong Kong will not bear to see Hong Kong being destroyed, because Hong Kong is a home for you and me. Have a share. Hong Kong people must stand up to the police against violence and defend their homes. My personal observation is the same. We must believe that the vast majority of Hong Kong people have a conscience and love Hong Kong. They can clearly understand the twists and turns. The future and destiny of Hong Kong are still in the hands of Hong Kong people.
"One country, two systems" includes "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong". Now is the time when "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong" really face new challenges. "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong" does not refer to the chief executive of Hong Kong or the elites of Hong Kong, but to how all Hong Kong people manage Hong Kong well. We must trust the consciousness of the Hong Kong people. These things are bad things for Hong Kong, but they may also be good things in a sense. So many years after the return of Hong Kong, Hong Kong’s constructive forces have been reunited and awakened.
Liu Yicheng: We also need to strengthen public opinion propaganda and improve everyone's level of awareness. Some street troublemakers feel naive if they come into contact with them in life.
Observer Network: It is very important for to make good publicity. However, we are also facing some new problems. When emotionally, even a normal news report can sometimes intensify the conflicts between the people of the two places. Both sides are fierce and even hateful.
He Jianhua: This is a problem. It is not enough to control violence with violence. Young people make mistakes and must find a way to let them know when they are lost. The "Pearl of the Orient" Hong Kong should not and must not become a violent city. Everyone hopes that Hong Kong will stop violence and chaos as soon as possible and restore the peaceful and refined atmosphere of the past.
Liu Yicheng: On some issues of , everyone should understand that enough is enough. Of course, the practice of some British or foreign-funded enterprises is indeed excessive. For example, the acquisition of HSBC by Ping An Bank is a beautiful battle. (Observer's note: Ping An of China responded to Ping An’s acquisition of HSBC on August 12, saying that it is purely a financial investment of company insurance funds and does not participate in any daily operation and management.)
In addition, it turns out that I chose Cathay Pacific when flying to Hong Kong. After I recently booked a Cathay Pacific ticket, I heard that a pilot was participating in the "reverse delivery", so I asked my secretary to call and ask what flight that pilot flew and we had to avoid it. In fact, we were very polite to ask, but the public relations department of Cathay Pacific ignored it at all, which made me feel that they were really hostile. In the end, the Civil Aviation Administration of China came forward and Cathay Pacific gave in.
It can be seen that some foreign capital plays a very bad role in it. No matter which airline company, it should be people-oriented. Customers have questions, but you ignore it. That means you really have a political color.
He Jianhua: Yes, from a policy perspective, Chinese investors should also take action in the next step. Since many aspects of Hong Kong are controlled by capital, we can also counter-control and increase the voice of capital.
Liu Yicheng: is like Chairman Mao’s "pull out and come in". On the one hand, we need to increase participation, and on the other hand, we need to lead them to the Mainland and the Greater Bay Area. We must have more contact and let them see themselves. See the status quo in China. I still have this belief. Based on my more than 30 years of life experience in Hong Kong, their action is doomed to fail.
