character interview
character: Zhong Fugui
age: 62 years old
address: Babaota community
has been in the busy city for too long, and many people may yearn to return to rural life. Build a small house, open up a piece of farmland, raise a few birds, stay away from the hustle and bustle of horses and carts in the city, and enjoy a comfortable life close to nature in the brisk sound of singing. But for work and other reasons, such ideas are often not easy to implement. And Zhong Fugui, a bird lover who lives in the Babao Pagoda community, uses the balcony to be a birdcage to enjoy a world of bird whispers in the noisy city.
Mr. Zhong, 62 years old this year, is actually from Wanzhou, Chongqing. Later, he followed his father to settle in Yichang and worked in shipping before retiring. "When I was a child, I lived in the junction of urban and rural areas. From time to time, there would be courageous birds flying near my home to look for food. I liked their looks and their calls. I once caught and raised a starling, even if I let it go after it is cooked I will fly back and bring a lot of joy to my childhood." The fate forged with the bird since childhood continued until Mr. Zhong settled in Yichang. In the beginning, he only raised a few birds, all of which are relatively easy to raise, such as myna parrots, and they can be raised very well with ordinary food.
A few years ago, Mr. Zhong retired and he has more time. There are more and more birds on his balcony. At most, there are more than 20. He said: "Although I bought some of these birds, I have never sold one because I can't bear it. Even if I die, I will be buried in the flower bed downstairs. I refuse to let their bodies suffer a little. Blasphemy." Since raising these birds, Mr. Zhong's daily life has become particularly regular. "I wake up at five or six o'clock every morning, the first thing is to feed them, water, and fill my own stomach after feeding them. Every Saturday, I will go to the orchard all the way to the flower and bird market to see Are there any new species, or exchange bird-raising experience and experience with other bird lovers. And every half month, I spend nearly an hour to make egg yolk rice for the birds." There is a more free living space. Mr. Zhong also transformed the balcony of his home into a place for birds to play and live. The railings on the anti-theft network and the half-open bird cage are their resting places. In summer, he wraps a layer of red cloth on the outside to protect the birds from the glare of the sun, and also places two fans for them to keep cool. In winter, he will wrap a thick layer of insulation film on the anti-theft net to prevent the birds from catching cold. Although the birds are beautiful, hygiene is difficult. In order to ensure the cleanliness as much as possible, Mr. Zhong will spend one or two hours cleaning the bird's nest at 5 or 6 pm every day. On the balcony of his house, there are all kinds of cleaning tools. There are four models of different sizes for the mop alone, as well as a shovel and a bird bath.
After two decades of getting along, Master Zhong and Bird have become a family. He said, "Birds are actually like people. As long as you treat them with heart, they will return you with beautiful singing." And now, he sits at home every day and listens to the sounds of these birds. Feeling in a trance in the nature, the impetuosity in my heart disappeared immediately. In the laborious life of "serving" these birds, he not only made his retirement life full of fun, but also relaxed his body and mind.
