On July 17, 2024, the Shanghai Museum's "Top of the Pyramid: Ancient Egyptian Civilization Exhibition" opened in the People's Square Pavilion. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Shanghai Museum and the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities. The exhibition will be open to the public on July 19 and will last for nearly 13 months until August 17, 2025.

The exhibition unfolds an independent narrative through three sections: "The Kingdom of the Pharaohs", "The Secret of Saqqara" and "The Era of Tutankhamun", looking back on the long years nourished by the river, and tracing the interweaving of mythology and the real world. Longitude and latitude, gain insight into the overall appearance and historical details of ancient Egyptian civilization, and interpret the profound connotation of ancient Egyptian civilization from different angles.

This exhibition is the largest special exhibition in the history of the Shanghai Museum. In order to coordinate with the exhibition, the Shanghai Museum will renovate and open three exhibition halls on the first floor of the People's Square Pavilion, with a total exhibition area of 3,000 square meters. In Chen Space, a unique and immersive exhibition experience is created for the audience through exhibition narrative, cultural relic display and digital technology. The exhibition brings together 492 groups of 788 precious cultural relics from different periods of ancient Egyptian civilization. These cultural relics are selected from seven key Egyptian museums including the Egyptian National Museum, Luxor Museum, and Suez Museum, as well as the latest archaeological discoveries in the Saqqara region, of which more than 95% This is the first time that the cultural relics have come to Asia, and together they reveal the face of ancient Egyptian civilization to the audience.
