Dunhuang is located at the west end of the Hexi Corridor. It was once a stage for nomads to gallop, a border town for the Central Plains dynasty and a base for operating the Western Regions, and an important Silk Road town for cultural exchanges between the East and the West.
Dunhuang has experienced the baptism of many dynasties. It has a splendid culture and is full of historical sites, including Mogao Grottoes, Yulin Grottoes, West Thousand Buddha Caves and other major landscapes. The Mogao Grottoes, also known as the Dunhuang Grottoes, are known as the Pearl of Oriental Art and are the largest existing grottoes in China. There are 2,618 caves preserved, including 491 caves with murals and statues.
These caves are roughly oriented from west to east, with multiple overlapping layers (the most overlapping area is four layers), and are arranged on a cliff with a total length of 1,500 meters from north to south. The cave contains more than 45,000 square meters of colorful murals from the Northern Liang Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty. The themes are mostly taken from Buddhist stories, but there are also murals that reflect the folk customs, farming and weaving, hunting, weddings and funerals, and festival joy at that time. The Mogao Grottoes murals use delicate brushwork and rich images to depict every detail of people's lives at that time, allowing these precious moments to be passed down to this day.
Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes are famous both at home and abroad for their murals. The sources of the powder copies of these murals are complex. Some came from the Western Regions, some originated from the Central Plains, and some were created by local painters. The rich sources make the content of Dunhuang murals diverse and friendly to the people. This feature is particularly prominent in the grottoes of the middle and late Tang Dynasty. For example, scenes such as "Flying the Kite under the Tree" in the Repaying Gratitude Sutra, the "Wedding Picture" in the Maitreya Sutra, and the "Meat Shop" in the Lankavatara Sutra, all depict innocence in detail. Love and the taste of urban life. There is often a wall with both the grand and spectacular Western Pure Land transformation and interesting scenes depicting life in Dunhuang.

△ Farming and harvesting The dance drama "Return from Dunhuang" uses artistic imagination to show the aesthetic style and spiritual connotation carried by Dunhuang culture. Select the main scenes from the Dunhuang murals, pictures such as seeing off, lighting lanterns, farming, wine shops, encountering thefts, etc. will vividly reproduce the cultural content in the Dunhuang murals, making the cultural relics "come alive" in the way of stage art.
